“THE AUTHORITY ITSELF BETRAYS OUR PEOPLE”

April 30,2007 00:00

This remark was pronounced for many times during the meetings of “Rule of Law” Party in Armavir and Echmiadzin cities.

“Such a remark is simply inadmissible and groundless for me”, – “Rule of Law” Party leader Arthur Baghdasaryan told “Aravot” when we asked him to interpret Robert Kocharyan’s remark about the intercepted conversation between Arthur Baghdasaryan and UK deputy ambassador. The RA President had told that it was hard to imagine that the NA former chairman could do such a shabby turn: “I consider his action as a betrayal, especially when it is committed by his own initiatives”. Robert Kocharyan had also told that such kind of way of actions described the person’s character”.

Arthur Baghdasaryan told: “ In that concrete case I have been invited for a meeting, to have a dinner, so I have agreed. There are a lot of meetings like it, and what I say during private meetings, I also say publicly, in my speeches. And more, seeing the active pro-authority propaganda of this theme, it becomes clear that the authority’s main anxiety is the “Rule of Law”, and several days before the elections they unsuccessfully tried to compromise the OEP and exert influence on our constituency. Certainly every observer or diplomat is interested in the pre-electoral situation, and each oppositionist should represent all those problems, which exist. Remember or reread the press of the latest years and you’ll see how sharp and negative remarks the oppositionists have given to the international different structures. But they remained without any reply /we should notice that there were, e.g. the demonstration at the airport against Shavarsh Kocharyan’s and Artashes Geghamyan’s speeches in the PACE.  They were condemned in betrayal again. / According to my conviction all those who commit electoral crimes and dishonor us in the international structures, are the true betrayals. Nobody can reproach me for wishing my homeland the best. And my wishful homeland is the country based on democracy and rule of law and not the sowing of the atmosphere of fear”. We should mention that only the journalists were interested in the issues of interception. No participant in the meetings both in Armavir and  Echmiadzin asked any question about it. The participants asked Arthur Baghdasaryan the following: A man told that he still kept Arthur Baghdasaryan’s answer to his letter about credit return: “The second letter I addressed to Torosyan, he answered the opposite. Another man asked the OEP leader: “Help the workers to live. I don’t want anything else.” A woman simply wished them luck. Arthur Baghdasaryan and Heghine Bisharyan didn’t also mention that incident in their speeches directly.  They were speaking about their pre-electoral projects, the ruling injustice in the country calling to participate in the elections on May 12, reminding about criminal responsibility for electoral irregularities e.g.

The indirectly mention of that incident was the remark in Heghine Bisharyan’s speech when she declared in Armavir that the 30 percent of the people was poor, “Whether this isn’t a betrayal to our nation?” Arthur Baghdasaryan told in Echmiadzin during his meeting: “They try to use dirty technologies against “Orinats Erkir” Party, to compromise and carry our black propaganda. It’s all the same, this is condemned as people know very well who is who, who has robbed, who has brought the country to this hard social-economic situation.  Are you satisfied with your life, go and vote for the RPA and other pro-authority parties and added: “We tell very clearly and decisively, fair elections must be held in Armenia. And if they are rigged, both our people and international community must condemn roughly as these elections have very decisive meaning for our nation, our future and for our further developments.”
