Deputy Director on foreign relations of Matenadaran, an exclusive specialist of Armenian medieval manuscripts Arshak Banuchyan is being persecuted for backing Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

He dared to declare about his political orientation and preferences during the presidential elections 2008 and joined Levon Ter-Petrosyan\’s movement and became the latter\’s authorized person. Those who know Banuchyan affirm that he is a noblest person, a patriot and intellectual. But today that person is arrested. The policemen visited his apartment on March 24 Conduct a search but they did not find anything and took his computer which included important materials and works about Matendaran. So Banuchyan himself decided to go to the Prosecutor\’s office, thinking that it would be better to examine his computer at his presence not to damage his materials. Late at night he phoned and informed his family that he was arrested. Arshak Banuchyan was accused of very famous accusation; “Organization of mass riots in parallel with violence, firings, shootings, explosures”. He is also accused of “preventing the free will of the voters\'”.
A. Banuchyan\’s attorney Stepan Voskanyan is sure that if the law inforcement bodies had
enough proofs to accuse Mr. Banuchyan, they had already the criminal case to the court: “What Banuchyan is accused of doesn\’t deal with his persoanlity”,-Stepan Voskanyan said in the interview with “Aravot” adding that he has not comitted any crime and I do not think that they can show any evidence which will prove hi crime. But the Court of general liability of Kentron and Nork Marash communities has satisfied the petition of the RA special investigation service to extend Mr. Banuchyan\’s arrest for two more months.
Stepan Voskanyan will appeal the decree of Arshak Banuchyan\’s arrest\’s extension in the Court of Appeal on Monday.

RA NA factions, “Heritage” and ARF, as well as independent parliamentarian Victor Dallakyan, Chairman of RA Union of Writers, director of Matenadaran Hrachya Tamrazyan and head of the board Sen Arevshatyan have turned to Public Prosecutor Aghvan Hovsepyan to change the way of Arshak Banuchyan\’s arrest.
