Will “Hin Erivan” (Old Yerevan) reach the European Court?

August 31,2011 00:00

\"\"The owner of the holding applied to the court with the demand of restoring his business reputation and having the people who had besmirched it held responsible.

The scandal between “Hin Erivan Holding” and “Unibank” has been the focus of everybody’s attention for a month now. The bank management claims that “Hin Erivan”, as a borrower, did not carry out its obligations at the time, as a result of which it found itself in the “black list” of the negligent customers of the bank, and the owner of the restaurant ensures that all this is just the doing of a person who holds a state top rank office and who, using his state leverage, tries “to take from him his restaurant which he has built with the efforts of 20 years and which has a good reputation today.” Owner of “Hin Erivan Holding” Manvel Ter-Arakelyan ensures that they have never made bank payments with not only one-day delay, but one-hour delay, therefore the statements made by director of “Unibank” Vardan Atayan are nothing, but moves to besmirch the good reputation of the Holding. It came down to transferring the argument between “Unibank” and “Hin Erivan” from the civil law sphere to the criminal law sphere. After staying in the police general department fighting the organized crime (the 6th department) for 8 hours the other day, Manvel Arakelyan decided to apply to the attorney’s office and to the court himself with a demand of findind “Hin Erivan” solvent borrower and having director of “Unibank” Vardan Atayan held responsible for besmirching the business reputation of the Holding. Manvel Ter-Arakelyan urged the bank director to give up speaking “the language of aggressor and force” with him, otherwise he would be forced to make public the name of the man who is actually behind all this, besides, he would make public facts that will show how other customers of the bank had suffered from V. Atayan’s work style.
However, let us mention that according to certain news, this entire story actually has a political implication and all that is a classical way of taking M. Ter-Arakelyan’s business from him. According to our information, the taxation office has started inspections in Mr. Ter-Arakelyan’s company.
In response to our question, in that case, why the top-ranking guests of our country did not visit “Hin Erivan” any more and they were taken even to “Bellagio”, which has no menu characteristic and typical of any nation, but not in any case to “Hin Erivan”, M. Ter-Arakelyan said, “The reason is that today many restaurants are opened and the competition between the restaurants is very high. I think, that is the only reason, besides, the president of the Russian Federation has already been to “Hin Erivan” twice, is it comfortable to come for the third time? Would you take your guest to the same place for the third time; there are different menus and you would like them to taste those too, wouldn’t you?”
“Aravot” also inquired from Manvel Ter-Arakelyan  who he meant, when he stated that a state official was behind this story; in response to which M. Ter-Arakelyan preferred not to mention names yet – he only said that all that was being conducted through V. Atayan who used “Unibank”, as a tool, “I wouldn’t like Manvel Atayan to besmirch the good name of other banks in our country with his work style; today we really have civilized banks with European mentality, which really help businessman. One should not act like this, in order to satisfy his ambitions. Now he looks and dreams of taking my place and look from here. However, I will do whatever it takes to restore our good reputation and the moment we are found a solvent borrower, we will make the remaining payments to the bank and this story will end. Under the conditions of the present free market, the business reputation is very important. I dedicated past 20-25 years to building “Hin Yerevan”. It is my baby and nobody has the right to besmirch an organization built for 25 years. There is an unwritten moral code in this city, especially regarding men. Whoever hears this story, firstly asks a question who has started; today I prove to everybody that Vardan Atayan has started first, stating that Manvel of “Hin Erivan” is a bankrupt, that “Unibank” has already confiscated our building, and the new owner of “Hin Erivan” will be announced in the short run.” In response to our question, if the issue had a negative outcome, what means he would use, M. Ter-Arakelyan said that he would apply to the foreign embassies in the country, other international organizations and the European Court.
