July 16,2013 10:26

“Japan’s economy is not so good, but in our country funds are allocated to such scientific research, the application of which will result in the economic development”,- so answered the representative of Japan’s Kyoto University Takaji Inamuro to the question of Aravot.am whether there are problems in funding the science in Japan. He informed that their government presents specific orders to different scientific groups, which should be introduced in the future for the development of this or that field of economy. We go interested from the Japanese scientists what other sources of funding sciences they have, and what is the ratio of funding from the budget. He answered,- “The majority of funding, 80 percent, is allocated by the government, the other 20% is provided by different interested companies. Concerning the issues of economic development, Japanese government relies on the scientific potential and activities. Therefore, to some extent, different research groups get order from the government.”

The representative of Erlangen University of city Nuremberg in Germany Regina Ammer noted that in Germany, depending on the field of science, there are sometimes problems with financing. Then she detailed,-“For example, I’m working on EU project that is connected to the computer science. There are no problems in this area, but, for example, in the scientific fields of social sector, there are sometimes problems with funding. It is difficult for me to provide specific data in funding sciences but that the government is the main role player in funding science, it’s a fact. The fact that different scientific groups are also funded by different production companies, it’s another issue.”
