Humanity has not acquired immunity to genocide. The reasons are numerous, including the fact that the first genocide of the 20th century against Armenians is not the so-called “considered proven” by everybody, and many countries refuse to accept the obvious facts purely due to political and economic reasons. Genocides will reoccur as long as certain moral norms will not operate in international relations, but only political and economic calculations. The Yezidis are a very old nation or religion, there are different opinions here, but in the given case, it is not essential. Pursuant to Yezidis chronology, not it is the 86th century, it is a layer of civilization that humanity is obligated to preserve.

But those who in Southern Iraq arm and support Sunni extremists: Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and for some time, also, the United States, are profoundly indifferent towards civilization and keep pursuing their own economic and political interests. I do not believe that a group of religious fanatics, by themselves and using heavy weapons, can set up a war, conquer territories and commit genocide over a whole nation: Yezidis, as well as the Assyrians and Christian Arabs.

All that is going on today in the north of Iraq, of course, is a part of the geopolitical game by the states. However, for the relatives of thousands of perished peaceful Yezidi and Assyrians, Christians and Shiite Muslims, for expelled people dying of hunger in the mountains, these games have become the least to say a tragedy, but a real hell. In this regard, Americans and Europeans display mainly extreme hypocrisy and cynicism, at best, indifference. And what about us, Armenians? Following public sentiments in Armenia, it is difficult to conclude that we are particularly interested in the genocide of our days, that people’s hearts hurts for hellish suffered people. Yet, during the history and also in the Artsakh war, Yezidis acted as our friends, an ally nation. Plus, more than 35 thousand citizens of Kurdish origin (according to 2011 census) live in our country.

The public indifference, thus, is pretty amazing. The photos and video received from the north of Iraq strongly remind me of the photos that are in the Genocide museum in Yerevan. Genocide-committing ethnos seems to be different, but the style is obviously the same. So as the hypocrisy of the world’s powers.
