Will the parliamentary trio leave RPA alone on the EaEU matter?

November 25,2014 15:42

Hovhannes Sahakyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly, also Republican MP, does not share his part colleague’s opinion that at the NA plenary session, the RPA faction would alone ratify the Eurasian Economic Union membership Treaty.

Note that a similar opinion was expressed today by the Republican Party MP Sukias Avetisyan. “In any viewpoint voiced until now, with the exception of one-two members of the “Heritage”, I have not seen any parliamentary faction, in general, that is against the EaEU membership. There are both “pros” and “cons” views in ANC, ARF, PAP and RPA parties. Currently, there is no faction that has made its position clear. There is even no problem with predictions of the moment, everyone should assess the EaEU membership with its strengths and weaknesses, also in the comparison,” said Hovhannes Sahakyan, considering the most important issue the issues of our state, statehood and sovereignty.

In this regard, referring to the decision of the Constitutional Court, he does not see any problem. In any case, according to him, the posture of political forces would become more definite in two weeks. To the observation of whether it is possible for the non-ruling factions not to participate in elections from perspective of gaining purely political dividends by leaving RPA alone, our interlocutor said, “There were cases when the Republican Party was left alone while solving complex and critical issues for the country. I would not say that this is a critical moment. It is a decisive and important historical moment as to which direction to go. We also have the task of developing the economy. It is also very important. Should we open our eyes wider and look a little further of our nose and see what’s going on around us: Turkey, Syria, Islamic state and so on, it would be clear that today we have a priority also with regard to economic security.”
