Armenian reflection of Russia-US hostility

December 12,2014 16:12

Sooner the superpowers reconcile, better for us. During this year, the “dose” of evil and intolerance in the world has not been reduced. We, Armenian, suffers from two main centers of this tension: the ongoing war in the Middle East represents a physical danger to our countrymen, and the Russia-US confrontation involves us, Armenians, into a senseless “dilemmas”.

Every day, I read dozens of articles in which the Armenian authors are writing racism and homophobia breathing texts about Americans, Europeans, and especially about Ukrainians (these authors are either pro-Russian or pro-Putin). On the other side of the “barricades” are the Armenians who do not want to see anything positive in Russia, its history and culture (they are pro-Westerns). The supporters of these dogmatic views, as it usually happens, are trying to put all those expressing opinions different of them in an extreme opponents’ “position” to feel comfortable to attack these positions. In fact, being hostile on that ground is absolutely useless for us, Armenian, also because of the confrontation between Russia and the United States will end one day, and, as they say, the residue will remain in our internal relations. The question is how it is going to end.

Option A – The superpowers would agree on sharing of the Ukraine by this way or another. This modern type of the Munich plot, of course, would be very painful for the people of Ukraine, even if the integrity of this country were formally maintained. But purely from humanitarian point of view, it is better than the continuation of the war, during which already more than 4,000 people are killed (by the UN data as of November 20).

Option B – Russia is becoming so weak economically, the social conditions there is becoming so deteriorated that either revolutionary processes occur, or Putin is forced to turn to the US for help, which, of course, the United States will provide at the expense of denial of the nuclear status. The two “sub-options” of this option are strongly undesirable for us, Armenians. We are interested in having a strong ally.

Option C – The administration is changing in the United States, and the new president is seeking ways to normalize the relations. The United States presidential elections will be held on November 8, 2016. The fight actually has started, the current process is generally called “hidden primaries,” when the two main parties “touch” the potentials of possible candidates. To say at this point who will be nominated, moreover, who is going to win is not possible. One can made a strictly preliminary assumption that after Obama’s not so successful tenure for 8 years, a Republican candidate would come to the White House. The following names are mentioned among them: New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and former president’s brother, Jeff Bush. Both are not John McCain, and are not notable by a special aggression against Russia. While, among the Democrats, the name of the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been spoken about. The king of investments Warren Buffett believes that Hillary will be the winner and is ready to spend money on it. If the billionaire expresses such a willingness, then he knows something. In both cases, the “regime change” or “reproduction” of Democrats, the new US president will have the chance to review his relations with Russia for improvement. Which, I would be repeated, is a beneficial option for us.
