“If necessary, our President will meet with Vladimir Putin,” Vahram Baghdasaryan

ANC faction secretary Aram Manukyan expressed bewilderment at the parliamentary briefing as to why the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan was not invited to Astana, where many important issues were discussed. In his observation, “If you are not going and not attending, so how do you represent the interests of your country? I am sure that he is not actually invited. He may be invited to attend the stand-up meal, but they did not invite Serzh Sargsyan to attend the major discussions.”

In an interview with Aravot.am, the leader of the RPA faction Vahram Baghdasaryan got angry, “Tell Aram Manukyan that the Astana meeting has nothing to do with the EaEU. Every president has problems with regard to its country. This meeting had nothing to do with the EaEU. Otherwise, Armenia is considered to be not only the EaEU, but also Russia’s strategic partner, and he would definitely be present at that meeting.”

To our observation that even if the meeting had discussed the problems of these countries, Armenia has its own approach to each of these problems, so why Serzh Sargsyan had not protected the interests of Armenia, Vahram Baghdasaryan replied, “This discussion was an interstate discussion. Vladimir Putin has announced that the presidents of Belarus and Kazakhstan expressed willingness to meet with him, and he was thinking about this meeting. After thinking, he agreed to meet. The President of Armenia conducts phone conversations on regular base, and if appropriate, meets with Vladimir Putin. And if necessary, our President will meet with Vladimir Putin. It was not the meeting organized by Vladimir Putin or the EaEU, but the suggestion of the two presidents of the countries to meet, and the meeting was within this format.”
