Nobody will donate us Masis

November 25,2015 11:18

“That’s all, now Russia will smash Turkey and will return our Masis to us”, exclaim some of my compatriots excited by the escalation of Russian-Turkish relations. If I was asked which manifestation of our social thinking is the most dangerous for the state, then without hesitation I would answer, just this one. Along with seeing the problems as a state and as an individual beyond you and expecting for saviors from outside, we are in some senseless, I would even say, insane illusions that there are some “good” nations or states that run (or should run) an “Armenophile” policy, and there are “bad” nations, whose main concern is to do harm to us.

Actually, there is no “good” and “bad” in the global politics, there is no loyalty and betrayal, there is no “devoted” and “venal”. The state actions are beyond such ‘moral’ assessments. They act driven by their own interest, while other consequences, including the nations and the states, are possibly used for advancing their interests. If we want to be “used” by someone and hope that this one will do us a “favor” as a “thank you”, then, to say the least, we are naïve. Moreover, we should not have any problem to explain to a country about its interests, you see, the leaders of these countries know them very well without us. It seemed that Zori Balayan’s thinking in 2015 should be viewed as a rudiment that lived its century long ago. But it turns out that…

Russia and Turkey will hardly kick off a war against each other now. But even if they do, it will not bring anything good for us. Like previously. We have only suffered from such wars, and it had happened also because we hoped that the “Russians” will liberate our lands and will donate them to us just because we are Christians, brothers and allies. And then we are offended why the Russians “do not take care of” their brother and ally. A parasite remains a parasite in every matter. As if someone has promised to us to “take a good care” and has broken the promise.

What we, Armenians, have achieved, we have done ourselves and for us. In particular, the establishment of the first Republic, Soviet Armenia’s industrial, educational and scientific potential (unfortunately, largely wasted), victories in the Artsakh war; all of this was done by the people of Armenia. Certainly, we were offered help, we had friends and allies, but we have not relied on the goodwill. Now too, the 18-year-old boy standing at the border does more than hundred “geopolitical analysts” who think that we will benefit from deterioration of relations between Russia and Turkey. On the contrary, it stems from our interest that this confrontation does not develop and possibly be settled down as soon as possible.
