How to establish peace

April 29,2016 12:20

Sometimes, a dispute arises about which of the terms is correct: “liberated territories”, “occupied territories”, or “security zone.” It seems to me that everything is possible in journalism and journalistic text, however, the precise legal and political term is “a territory enshrined by the Constitution of  Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.” Yes, we have not officially recognized this state, though I think that the time for it is close. But by psychological and social level, we need to understand that it is an established state where people and the power decide the fate of their territory. This is not a campaign trick nor a whimsy, this is a simple pragmatism which should be guided.

And consequently, when sitting in Yerevan we are discussing what to give in return for the status of  Karabakh, what is necessary to take and so on, we should take into consideration that we are the giver, the taker and the status decision-maker.

The Artsakh State has a Constitution by which the regions in conflict belong to Artsakh and incidentally, have their Armenian names. I or Lavrov or Obama or any other person neither physically nor morally nor legally are able to decide the fate of these regions but also half a meter of these regions for the Artsakh people. If someone says to us, give Maralik to Finland for you to live good, how we will understand this proposal. Hence, I suggest finishing all kinds of conversations in Yerevan about “giving-not giving”. If any such issue is discussed at the NKR National Assembly, then we will comment. I am neither a nationalist, not militant nor, moreover, a racist.

I do not think that we, the Armenians, are “better” of any nation. I want us to live in peace with Azerbaijan. How is it possible to do today when the neighboring state has intended to expose all Armenians in Artsakh to genocide, moreover, Azerbaijan does not even hide it, once again “highlighting” its behavior in early April this year. This is possible only by giving intense military attacks to the Azerbaijan state, such attacks that will make the leadership of Azerbaijan feels the danger of war. We cannot, even theoretically, solve the Artsakh issue militarily, we cannot expose Azerbaijan to capitulation. But the Artsakh Defense Army with the help of all Armenians can create such a situation in the frontier that Azerbaijan will again ask for peace from the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (yes, from NKR) to rest for a few months or a few years.

Is there another way to bring peace? To apply to the co-chairs, Russia, the US and Europe to bridle Azerbaijan’s aggression and to prevent a new genocide of Armenians? We have passed all this for several times.
