Nowadays “Titans of Renaissance”

May 05,2016 11:58

The war paves a way not only for the worthy citizens who currently are ready to do everything, starting from digging trenches to resist the enemy but also many self-taught “political experts”, “military experts” and “diplomats”. Hardly any of us would wish to make judgments, let’s say, about quantum physics but as to which direction our units should go, which type of weapon they must use and how we should “drink tea in Baku”, each of us has a clear vision on this. The military affair is also a science, isn’t it?

Picking up information from here and there, websites, Facebook and “post-dinner” conversations, it is certainly possible to shape your own personal understanding of the situation. However, it is not necessarily to “formulate” these understandings in the form of press conferences and interviews. Certainly, it is noticeable not only after the April events, the situation is the same over 25 years. During all this time, I am working as a journalist and people meeting me on the street (allegedly, as a man of information) ask a question … “Is it true that …?” and then present such a ridiculous rumor that I lose my tongue for a moment and do not know what to answer. In particular, they were and are asking whether it is true that the first, second and the third presidents of Armenia cede Karabakh to Turks.

But if you say that it is a lie, they will begin to argue, “How come! Then you do not understand anything, Hermine Naghdalyan once said this.” And I become an “ignorant” from a “knowledgeable person”, whom my interlocutors must convey additional information. Anyway, there was no Facebook some 20 or 10 years ago, no websites in such quantities as well as press clubs, which need “speakers” every day while in our small republic, it is difficult to find every day not only specialists in this or that sector but also more or less informed people. Therefore, the same person can speak about the Karabakh conflict, small HHPs, speedometers and gametes. No one, not even the Titans of the Renaissance are able to have thoughts or judgments from all of these areas at the same time and worth of the public attention. In this respect, I would like to give a piece of advice to my young colleagues: if a person comes to a press-conference, for example, on the theme of “Golden Apricot” film festival, do not ask him about the price of electricity.

Incidentally, about Tevan Poghosyan’s initiative pertaining to gametes. Yes, we do not have the chance to delve into this topic professionally. But, it is desirable to open the Internet, looking for the word and see in how many countries this practice is used and only then make emotional comments. The Internet is not only for reading stupid things on Facebook.
