And how many “hectares” is Armenia’s sovereignty?

June 01,2016 14:20

Prior to Karabakh, let us clarify the status of Armenia

Churchill used to say that the politicians are thinking about the next elections, while the statesmen – about the next generations. When the officials of Armenia are talking about the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, meaning the recognition of its independence, then an unpleasant question arises: and are you aware of the status of the Republic of Armenia, or, there is a “more important” issue – the elections – ahead, and you have to say something, or it does not matter what you say?

The Russian-Azeri subversive actions against Artsakh failed, the four-day war changed the situation. And to what extent is it perceived by the authorities and the political circles? Everyone says that the recognition of Artsakh’s independence by the international community has no alternative, and Armenia should achieve it in the negotiations launched in Vienna. I am sorry, who? Armenia? You? Armenia represented by you? Can you attain the recognition of independence, gentlemen?

First of all, prior to “getting close” to the question of Karabakh’s status, look around you, are you and we independent? Indeed? Have you clarified our status? And is it the status of the one who wants to obtain independence of Nagorno-Karabakh? Several fundamental and interrelated circumstances give an unequivocal answer to it: not. Russia’s “ally” doomed Armenia cannot achieve the international recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence. Moreover, such Armenia will receive a very simple explanation: “you do not deserve either.”

First of all, about the “age-old friend” Russia’s status. The Summit of G-7 in Japan once again showed that nowadays Russia’s international isolation has become the cornerstone of international relations, and the main liberal and democratic countries in the world have a full consensus on this issue: the sanctions against Russia will not only be lifted but would be intensified if necessary, reads the final declaration of the Summit. “Now look, what we will do with China” type of Kiselyov tales, of course, have nothing to do with the reality. The US major economic partner China, keeping a respectable distance on many occasions, has shown how it treats Moscow’s aggressive policy. And if it comes to the sanctions restricting the banking system, the probability of which is not little, then China being totally integrated into the international financial system will keep itself in a distance of already a cannon fire from all of this.

In addition, already 29 member countries of NATO also have a consensus: a restraining policy will be carried out against Russia. After the Cold War, the oblivion of the West disperses like the morning fog, and by the calls of the Baltic countries and Poland, a group of 4000 ground troops with high-speed response will be deployed on the western borders of Russia, and this is just the beginning, while historically neutral Sweden’s Parliament adopted a historic decision on allowing the access of NATO troops to the country. This suffices to imagine what kind of reputation and status Russia appeared in an impasse has obtained in Ukraine and Syria.

And here, we ask for the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh and recognition of rights with those who consider this subject an “ally” to us. Is this not ridiculous? Moreover, we are not only “ally” but also as Edward Nalbandyan says, we assume “commitments within the framework of the EaEU,” which means that we are not with the G-7 but with its opponent. In addition, being a landlocked country, therewith we only limit the relations with our neighbors Georgia and Iran, by turning our border, in fact, into a border with Russia-Georgia and Russia-Iran. In the case of the second one, we have even deployed a Russian border-guard. And as in “Zvartnots” airport, here too, almost no one asks at least a rhetorical question in the political aspect: what are you “defending” there and why are you standing there? And have you calculated how many “800 hectares” we have given to Russians providing Aliyev with weapons? And how many “hectares” is left from Armenia’s sovereignty as a result of all this? Or, this is not the question that brings political dividends, or this is not the theme of “consolidation”? Or, have they “told” you not to ask such questions?

And then, what happened to this EaEU with its 170-million market goods? How long should we “wait” for the economic “miracle”? How long will the government making far-reaching statements about the fight against monopolies tolerate Russian state companies “Gazprom’s” and “Rosneft’s” oppressor monopoly in Armenia? Or, these are “friendly” monopolies, and it is not allowed to touch them, even if they have gained the reputation of organized criminal gangs … just read the global leading media.

Limiting our opportunities with our own hands, both inside and outside, yet, do we want something from others? Do we claim for anything in this civilized world with such a “baggage” on our back, plus the corruption overhead and the political elite stepped back from their own sovereignty? Which one is left out?

It is no more possible to try concealing your own idleness, incompetence, greed, provincialism, political or just everyday ignorance by praising words addressed to the soldier, to continue the irresponsible conduct that existed before the April events. The history gives lessons, even to those who do not like to learn, or it seems to them that they know everything. In that case, the “teacher” takes a long and heavy stick in his hand…
