June 29,2016 13:52

Following the “heinous attack at Ataturk airport in Istanbul,” the President of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Pedro Agramunt today reaffirmed PACE’s solidarity with the Turkish authorities and extended his condolences to the victims’ families. “I stand with the Turkish people in the face of these ongoing threats,” he said.

“This act of violence follows on the heels of recent attacks in Ankara, Diyarbakir, Gazientep, Istanbul, Suruç and elsewhere in Turkey and across the globe. The attack comes at a time when Turkey is working on the international stage, to tackle the scourge of terrorism, which undermines the foundations of our democratic societies. This vile act, at an international airport reminds us that terrorism has no borders, and that only through mutual cooperation, solidarity and support can we combat this threat to our common values and peaceful living –together,” he stressed in a letter to the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Ismail Kahraman and to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavusoglu.

“We cannot let terrorism infect our lives with fear and hatred. The Assembly will continue to advocate its anti-terrorism initiative #NoHateNoFear and I can assure you that the Turkish Government, Parliament and people can count on the Assembly’s full support,” Pedro Agramunt concluded.
