PM Receives Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Head of Customs of Iran Masud Karbasian

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received today a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Head of the Main Customs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masud Karbasian.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is not only a friendly country for the Republic of Armenia, but also an important partner, and the political dialogue between our countries is at a high level. But we have the potential for expansion and development of our economic relations. Harmonious work of customs bodies of the two countries will also contribute to the development of trade and economic relations,” Karen Karapetyan said welcoming the guests.

The Prime Minister informed that today at the session of the Government he instructed the relevant departments to form a working group and with the Iranian side to work around the issue of promoting exports from the Republic of Armenia to Iran of Armenian products, in particular food and agricultural products, as well as discuss with businessmen the prospects of a free economic zone bear the border with Iran. According to the Head of the Government, it is a win-win opportunity for the businessmen of the two countries, and targeted efforts are needed for its implementation.

The Head of Iran’s Main Customs congratulated Karen Karapetyan on his appointment as Prime Minister and wished him every success.

Presenting the outcome the working talks with Chairman of State Revenue Committee by the Government of the Republic of Armenia Vardan Harutyunyan on matters of mutual interest, Masud Karbasian noted that a number of agreements have been reached. In particular, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on cooperation in the sphere of customs administration. The sides had noted the importance of the electronic exchange of relevant information and the need to raise the awareness of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran of customs procedures, exchange of experience and cooperation between the free economic zones operational the two countries.

“We can expand cooperation in the direction of the Eurasian Economic Union market through a free economic zone. As a bridge linking Armenia can take on a decisive role in this area, which in turn can contribute to the implementation of joint investment projects,” Masud Karbasian said.

In response, Prime Minister Karapetyan said that Armenia is ready to form a relevant platform leading to the EAEC market. The Prime Minister welcomed the improvement in customs conditions of the two countries and the joint efforts aimed at simplifying the procedures for entering each other’s markets.

The interlocutors discussed other issues of mutual interest, which concerned the development of cooperation in the field of transport and transit infrastructure.
