Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia widens the scope of “Hour of Code” event, this year bringing it to Gyumri along with Yerevan and Vanadzor. As the official press release states, the event is organized by MIC Armenia, Enterprise Incubator Foundation (EIF), Gyumri Technology Center (GTech) and SoloLearn RA LLC. The main purpose of the event, being organized for the third time already, is to provide the participants with insight and instruction into various programming languages and to develop their logical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

“The sphere of technology thrives in Gyumri and day by day a bigger number of young people get involved in IT sphere. Such development in our city is greatly related to the activities carried out by Gyumri Technology Center and we are happy that our center is among the organizers of such a technological event”, Amalya Yeghoyan, who is in charge of GTC capacity building, noted.

“Hour of Code” will be held on December 7th. All those who are interested in new technologies and want to acquire programming skills and study programming in general may join it. The knowledge of a programming language is not obligatory. Only basic English knowledge is required. The participants may get registered here.

“It’s been 14 years already that EIF has been implementing programs and events aimed at the development of the sphere. This time we will hold “Hour of Code” event in Gyumri together with the tech and innovation centers created by our strategic partners.”, Bagrat Yengibaryan, EIF Director said.

“Living in a millennium overwhelmed with technology, it’s important to transform the young from tech consumers into tech creators. Whatever we consume in online space, we can also create. Such events are a motivation for schoolchildren to take interest in programming, come up with new ideas and create innovative solutions in the future”, Artashes Vardanyan, MIC Armenia director added.

The official hashtag of the event is #hourofcodegyumri.

We are glad to note that the interest in this event is growing. In 2015, there were more than 250 participants aged 5-18 years old from different schools of Armenia participating. Many of them continued learning programming and are making their first steps as junior programmers already.
