‘OSCE Minsk Group evenhandedness encourages Azerbaijan to continue adopted policy’

February 03,2017 17:29

“We have become used to Azerbaijani long-practiced pattern of launching border provocations on the eve of any diplomatic moves or significant phases in the negotiations [over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict]. Panorama.am reports. This appears to be Azerbaijani style, and it is no accident we are trying to attract the mediators’ attention to the fact that evenhandedness in their calls encourages Azerbaijan to continue adopted policy,” Deputy at Armenia’s National Assembly, Chairman of the European Integration NGO Karen Bekaryan told a press conference on Friday.

Asked about the possibly of a meeting between Armenian, Azerbaijani FMs in the wake of Azerbaijani sabotage infiltration attempt, Bekaryan said it is of more importance what result the meeting may bring, instead of asking about the possibility of the meeting.
“I have doubts about the meeting outcomes and remain quite pessimistic since the recent negotiations have clearly demonstrated Azerbaijan has no interest in implementing the arrangements reached at high-level summits in Vienna and St. Petersburg. With that in mind what is called a negotiation process seems currently illogical. How is it possible to discuss political settlement of a conflict at a time of shooting, think over confidence building measures, when killings are reported? Any advancement in the talks requires the hot component to be neutralized and ensured any further escalation would receive targeted assessment – who violated [the ceasefire] and why,” Bekaryan noted.
