‘Concessions must come after the international recognition of Artsakh:’ Shirak Torosyan about first President’s interview

March 23,2017 04:26

In an interview with the reporters at the “Henaran” press club, the RPA party parliamentary candidate Shirak Torosyan expressed an opinion about RA first President, ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s observation in the recent interview that only the “Congress-PPA” alliance has a clear position on the Artsakh issue and also RPA with some reservations.  “The first President meant that our visions are contrasting.  The “Congress-PPA” alliance believes that it is possible to find reconciliation through some concessions to which Azerbaijan is also ready.  Each view has the right to exist,” noted Shirak Torosyan.

The RPA’s approach, according to him, is as follows: “The problem cannot be solved without Artsakh people’s self-determination and the clear status of Artsakh.  It should not be a part of Azerbaijan.  The remaining solutions incur from this principle.  The problem should be resolved through concessions but at the same time, the concessions must come after the international recognition of Artsakh.  This is enshrined in the RPA program, and we have always raised this issue.”  Shirak Torosyan presented his personal opinion on the “Madrid principles”.  “The current authorities of Azerbaijan do not have enough civilized approach to be able to talk with them around the same table about concessions.”
