Jan Petersen: “Party members and police have interfered in commissions’ work”

“It’s hard to mention the extent of the problem, but its existence is already a problem”, – told Ambassador Jan Petersen, the head of the mission during the meeting with the journalists, referring to the cases of bribe distribution recorded by the observation mission by OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. Assessing RA parliamentary elections of April 2, he opined that from the perspective of the confidentiality of the elections, the situation has improved: “The election day, overall, was quiet, the procedures were preserved and the scanners registering electors’ data worked efficiently”. Despite the aforementioned, the Ambassador pointed out that the mission had detected cases of interference by party members and police officers nearby polling stations: “There were queues of electors present”. Jan Petersen also informed that OSCE ODIHR will work in RA one more week and will follow post election processes.
