The director of the “International Institute of the Newest States” Alexey Martynov and the expert of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrey Areshev share the opinion that the results of the parliamentary elections in Armenia were not surprising.
According to Alexey Martynov, these results speak of the fact that Armenia remains in a long-term perspective in the frameworks of cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union and Collective Security Treaty Organization.
“Armenian elector voted in favor of the powers which advance those ideologies”, he told during the video bridge organized by “Sputnik-Armenia” press club. According to him, the overthrow of pro-Western forces, despite the fact that such finances were contributed, also by the U.S. Embassy, showed that the socially disadvantaged Armenian elector voted in favor of the relations having years of experience.
The Russian expert puts the stress on Karen Karapetyan’s factor in the victory of the RPA: “He succeeded to do a huge favor to the RPA in a short while”. For Andrey Areshev the ranked voting system is concerning. The expert is the supporter of reviewing the electoral system. He opines that this gives the parties having bigger resources an opportunity to have a great advantage. Political technologist Vigen Hakobyan considers the lack of political debates during the campaigns to be a “sad situation”.

In any case, according to him, now it should be the government’s priority to fulfill his promises: “They haven’t been many, haven’t been lavish, but the solution of the question as whether the deficit of trust issue will be solved or not depends on it”. He is of the same opinion, that RPA couldn’t record such a result without Karen Karapetyan.
