‘We do not acclaim that we are ready to leave EEU exactly tomorrow, risks exist’: ‘Yelq’ spokesperson

Tigran Avinyan, the spokesperson of “Yelq” bloc having passed into the parliament, commented on Ashot Yeghiazaryan’s viewpoint as if “Yelq” does not explain how it will promote RA’s membership in EU without leaving EEU and the bloc’s expectations on EEU to collide by itself will lead to Russia’s compulsion on RA to make concessions on Artsakh issue which will, in turn, lead to a war, in the interview with Aravot.am.

“The statements claiming that comprehensive trade agreement with both EEU and EU is incompatible do not correspond to the reality. It is a very difficult, but possible negotiation process”, told Tigran Avinyan in the interview. He noted that he did not see expectation moods in “Yelq’s” project as Ashot Yeghiazaryan had mentioned. “We say that all inner and outer risks should be assessed when doing a reform. According to our conviction the issue of leaving the EEU needs a real assessment. Therefore we do not insist that we are ready to leave EEU exactly tomorrow, because all risks should be taken into account.” We got interested in how “

We got interested in how “Yelq” would solve the problem of leaving the EEU being the only pro-western force in the parliament. “Pursuant to our conviction, EEU membership has been a serious mistake. But we have what we have. Consequently, it is necessary to commence negotiations with EU on a new agreement which will give an opportunity either to be compatible with EEU or to take a path to EU, considering all factual risks. At the moment we do not have a certain answer, everything depends on heavy and complex negotiation process”, answered Tigran Avinyan. He emphasized that RA should negotiate with EU and EEU once again: “Here exactly we review also Artsakh issue. We have told that EEU membership comprises risks regarding the fair settlement of Artsakh issue as well.”
