Filmmaker Tigran Khzmalyan had had an intention to form a party of European orientation still in Autumn of the previous year. They had conditionally decided to name it “European choice”. We asked Tigran Khzmalyan what phase their undertaking is to form a party in. “From September to October, the democratic and liberal part of Armenia was discussing the format and sense of participating in forthcoming Parliamentary elections. At that time I made one of the suggestions – insisting that the most important issue that stands before our nation and state is to day before leave the Eurasian Economic Union as well as from Collective Security Treaty Organization and join NATO and EU. I formed these two objectives as top priorities”, told Mr. Khzmalyan.
According to him, they have withdrawn from their intention to form a party by his suggestion although they had already prepared all documents: “On November 9, it became apparent for me and a number of other people that the presence of the West, which solely provided a pressure on the Republic of Armenia’s government and balanced its influence, would drastically degrade, it coincided with the emerging crisis within the EU which leaded towards the withdrawal of the Great Britain and already in the second half of November I explained in an open letter that elections in Armenia would not be present, their results would be predetermined by the US elections. I told that the European Choice would remain as an initiative, even today we meet frequently, as well as in political format. It is true that meetings do not take place now as rallies, but we go on communicating via internet and meeting during some events.”
To the question – who are the members of the initiative, Mr. Khzmalyan replied – hundreds of people gathering around his posts on the internet.
