January 12,2017 07:45

On September 25, at 10:40 am, in the combat position of the defense station of one of the military units located in the southern direction of the Defense Army, soldier Sevak Khachatryan (born in 1997), who was awarded a medal of bravery and excellent service in the war in April was deadly wounded from the enemy’s bullet. Aravot.am visited Sevak’s parents living in Arevik village, Armavir marz, whose lives, in their own words, has stopped right after September 25.  Sevak had unique abilities, still in school, he was distinguished by his high intellect, he is a winner in numerous Olympiads, he went in for boxing.  Sevak was excellent everywhere in the true sense of the word: at home, at school, in the army.  He was a sergeant of the machinegun squad in the April war.

Sevak had explored the forms of using the best weapons in the military unit and has been a skillful soldier.  He has never complained about the problems in the army when the parents were asking something, Sevak was getting angry, saying that “everything is fine in the army, we know very well what we are doing, mind your own business.”  The parents remembered what Sevak had said before his admission to the Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics at the YSU, “Daddy, if I am admitted to the University on a free basis, I will be writing an application to go to the army.”  The father told, “My oldest son has served during the diversions in Jabrail area, we got angry saying that his mother and I stay all nights awake, be patient, let the two years pass away, and then you will go.  He was impatient. We could not persuade him not to go.  He was in a hurry to serve when he was still 15-16 years old, his brother was in the army, he had quickly put on his brother’s military uniform and was photographed.”

The father was telling how patriotic Sevak was, he was still very young when the child of one of the relatives had thrown the tricolor flag on the ground and accidentally walked over it.  The father told, “Even when changing the radio channel and a Turkish music channel was connected, he was immediately getting angry, saying, quickly change the channel.  Sometimes we could not understand how he was perceiving things at his young age and devoted to the homeland.”  After Sevak’s death, the parents have erected a plaque in the regiment in the memory of Sevak.

The father told us how the regimental commander, Colonel Serzhik Shakaryan, was bitterly crying for two hours seeing him, “He had hugged me and started to cry.  He said that Sevak was one of our best soldiers in the military unit if not the best.  ‘I also cannot stand this, I have also fought for many years and I am losing these good soldiers, I go mad.  Sevak is my son too’.”  The commander of the regiment was telling that Sevak’s words were a lesson for his fellow soldiers.  During the hard days in April, he had gathered the soldiers around him saying, “We have nowhere to retreat, your only option is fighting and the weapon.”

The father told that on the day of the incident, Sevak was the assistant to the senior of the position, he has visited different positions to see what problems there are and how they can help.  Suddenly, he had noticed some strange movement from the side of the enemy.  He rose and began to watch closely.  He warned the soldiers next to him.  They have asked, Sevak, what do you see, what has happened, and Sevak has replied, “Just a minute and I’ll tell you what will happen” and could not continue.  Wounded, Sevak manages to pass to his mother that “it was an attack from the enemy.”  He was killed by the enemy’s sniper.  The fellow soldiers are sure that the enemy’s intelligence had tracked a target at Sevak who was distinguished in the army and they wanted to destroy him.  He was using maps to neutralize drones.
