Armenia Again was Treated Diplomaticaly

November 09,2004 00:00

H.Hovhannisian
about the Scheffer’s visit and US electionsAnalizing the NATO General Secretary
Jaap de Hoop Scheffer’s visit to the caucasion region yesterday during the "Aravot’s"
interview to the president of "The Free and Progressive" party Hovhannes
Hovhannisian noticed that " the General Secretary showed his attitudes toward
the countries of the region." Particularly "Mr. Scheffer spent the night
in Georgia and Adrbejan giving more time for discusions with the leaders of those
countries. But arrived Armenia an hour late and left half hour early. Saying with
the diplomatic language it was an attitude towards Armenia",- concludes H.Hovhannisian.
"Anyway, what kind of expectations can we have?" to this question answered
our interlocutor: " In general NATO is very interested in Southern Caucasus
and considers very significant the collaboration with the region. But it is unacceptable
for me that Armenia doesn’t want to follow Georgia’s example and go out from the
agreement organisations of collective security of CIS and wants to continue the
inergrating into NATO and EU in this way. It is not serious. This affirms once
more that the collaboration with the Europian officials is an inhibition play."Speeking
on the US presidential, congressial and Senate elections Mr. Hovhannisian mentioned
sadly that our country lost again. We must remind that H.Hovhannisian was one
of those who was against to yield to Kerry with all nation. " It was a uniqe
precedent that the whole diaspora was for Kerry. The Armenian-American associations
have their weight and they have always managed to keep the balance. But this time
we found ourselves in an improper situation because of the shortsightedness of
our authorities. Bush won both the presidential, Congress and Senate elections
which happened very seldom. An opposition party usually wins in one of those institutions.
In fact the US people trust Bush’s both the foreign and internal policy. Thus
Armenia in my oppinion lost the possibility of dialogue with Bush’s administarion.
Armenian-American associations, too. Before it if the relations with an institution
wasn’t proved we instead succeeded in relations with anothers now all the doors
was closed by bringing the desired instead of the truth. I don’ consider Bush
to be so vindictive that will revenge on Armenian associations. But something
was realy recorded: the RA and Armenian Americans were eager not to see Bush as
the US president for the second time. I think that Armenia-USA relations will
develope against that background in the next four years if the Armenian authorities
don’t change."Nelly Grigorian
