LET NOT TO REPULSE OUR FRIENDS

December 03,2004 00:00

The
counsel member of "Armat" center, politician Stepan Grigorian suggests
the present authorities to review its foreign political orientations and wrong
approaches. – What are the reasons that our country always makes mistakes?
First we assisted John Kerry then Robert Kocharian congratulated Viktor Yanukovich
on electing the Ukraine president.- The "hay dat" is on the basis
of the present foreign policy of Armenia. In this way we may always miss as it
was during John Kerry’s assistance by the "traditional" parties. The
same happened in case of Georgia when a serious anti Sahakashvily campaign was
carried. The same now is in case of the Ukraine. No one persisted the present
authorities in congratulating Yanukovich before the appointed time. And now in
case of serious changes of authorities in the Ukraine Armenia with several retarded
and capitalistic countries such as Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, Kirgistan or RF congratulated
the person who hasn’t been elected yet by the Ukraine laws.- Robert Kocharian
simply followed Vladimir Putin’s double congratulations. But is it worth to follow
Russia such obediently as the Georgian events showed that country seemed to move
away from the region?- It will be more correct to say Russia is moved away
from that region. That country can’t use the right way to develop: the half-capitalistic,
half-authoritarian economy of Russia weakens. So it is obvious Russia hasn’t got
any resources to keep its hegemony in this territory. But even in case of Abkhazia
when all candidates of president were pro Russian Russia wants their "KGB"
agent become the president of Abkhazia. I’m agree we must collaborate with Russia
actively and have friendly relations. But I’m against our leaders to be proteges.
The demonstrations of half million in the Ukraine are also against Russia.-
But the Russian press accuses Yushchenko to be at least the agent of the influence.
– I want to remind how the official Moscow marked the Karabakh Movement in
1988 calling our nation " a group of separatists". The same now happens
to the Ukraine. It is spoken about everything in Russia except the main issue
that the results of the elections have been falsified. Must we swallow that bait?
How do they call 14 million people who voted for Yushchenko even by the results
of falsified elections as agents or proteges? Are they all the proteges of the
West? Finally we must learn to respect not only us but other nations, too. So
it is quite dangerous our president’s congratulations to the illegal president.
Such kind of wrong activities are dangerous for our people’s security. – Besides
the Ukraine assisted Azerbaijan much more than Armenia in international institutions.-
For that reason our authority had to be careful and wouldn’t congratulate the
Ukrainian administration, which always voted against Armenia in the international
institutions. – The changes of authorities are profitable for us as new power
comes and maybe the strong orientation towards us will be changed. Our misfortune
is that the present authorities always work with those states and political forces,
which vote against us. It isn’t accident that the head of Yerevan State University
gives professorial statuses to the officials of high rank of those countries which
declare the Karabakh is the indivisible part of Azerbaijan – the President of
Iran Rafsanjani, the RF former Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Ivanov. The USA
always make resolutions in favor of Karabakh, grant a large sum of money, just
the US representative prevented the inauspicious activity in the UN General Assembly.
But we say Russia is better which votes abstain in the UN, and its delegates left
the hall in time of voting Atkinson’s resolution in PACE. Let’s forbear from those
wrong approaches not to repulse our real friends. Interview
