THE ARMENIAN NATIONAL MOVEMENT WILL CONTINUE FIGHTING AGAINST CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

February 23,2005 00:00

The
leader of the Armenian National Movement party Ararat Zourabian expresses his
regret that an opportunity of changeover of political powers was lost meaning
last elections. He also considers that the opposition was stricken: "Being
sure that there is nothing possible to do it became the evidence that both in
the Ukraine and Georgia the decisive opposition succeeded in changeover of political
powers."Mr. Zourabian has no debt that the revolution is necessary
for Armenia but the "way of realizing it aren’t known yet". The only
existed argumentation are constitutional amendments: "Every political power
if speaks about discussions of constitutional changes recognize the legitimacy
of current authorities. Perhaps they don’t realize it but they do. This authority
doesn’t have any right to move constitutional amendments as it has been formed
calling its legitimacy in question." To "Aravot’s" observation:
"Is it possible the constitutional amendments will become the beginning of
struggle for the ANM?" A. Zourabian answered: "It may notify the beginning
of the process. We can give such an appraisal. We’ll try to explain the society
how wrong the constitutional amendments are." As regards to the parliamentary
opposition Mr. Zourabian thinks that: "They have a lot of things to do in
connection with Electoral code. I don’t want to orient how they act but I think
that the parliamentary powers must give to the RA society such a law, which will
allow to hold normal elections in our country. I’m sure both the opposition and
the authority realize very well that it is impossible to hold elections like previous
ones. Otherwise revolutions can be born." As regards the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh:
"The way of denying the solution of the conflict of this authorities are
loosing day after day. It is strange when Vardan Oskanian promises that the Foreign
Minister of other country knows more about this issue than he does. By the way
the position of NK authorities is also strange for me. Even they try to find positive
elements in the resolution. Not to understand that this is the way of political
defeat means to notify that you politicize in vain. It always seems to the authority
that they have an enormous time to keep the problem in the same position. That
time doesn’t exist in reality. And in case of continuing this way we’ll get less
than we could get few years ago,"- Ararat Zourabian said. According to him
if the International community strain its position on Nagorno-Karabakh issue it
may cause a changeover of political powers in Armenia: "I don’t think the
authority has an alternative way to be accepted positively by the society."Nelly
