THE BALL IS IN THE FIELD OF TURKEY

April 28,2005 00:00

R.
Kocharian’s answer to Erdoghan hasn’t affected divergence of opinion yet in the
political sphere of Armenia.Discussing Robert Kocharian’s
replying letter to the Prime Minister of Turkey Erdoghan the political powers
were unanimous, even the opposition was agree with the stresses of Kocharian’s
letter. The appraisal of the secretary of ARF fraction Hrayr Karapetian was the
following: "I think the answer of the President is right as before forming
any scientific group or initiations lower from the governmental Armenia and Turkey
first must have official, diplomatic relations. We have always mentioned that
the first official diplomatic relations must be established which may form a base
for economic relations. I think the proposal of the President of the Republic
reflects the necessity which exists in the relations with Turkey and it may be
formed only by diplomatic relations." Hrair Karapetian also said that different
initiations of reconciliation, formation of commissions weren’t acceptable for
Dashnaktsutiun which can’t have the same effectiveness as governmental relations
are. Anyway whether it can be acceptable for Dashnaktsutiun those parts of the
letter where Armenia suggested to establish normal relations between our countries
without any pre-requests. Hrair Karapetian as well as our other interlocutors
doesn’t suspect that the Prime Minister of Turkey makes a curtsy directed to the
EU but he also doesn’t agree that replying to Erdoghan’s letter Kocharian pours
water on Turkey’s mill. "I think the answer of the President pu everything
in its place, saying by a football team now the ball is in the field of Turkey."In
the opinion of the member of "Justice" fraction, the secretary of People’s
Party of Armenia Grigor Haroutiunian the questions given by Kopcharian were true
but it must be said more clearly that the Genocide wasn’t a metter of discussion.
"And intergovernmental relations, diplomatic and economic relations were
all acceptable." In Grigor Harutiunian’s oppinion the goal of Turkey was
not Armenia but to throw dust in the eyes of the EU. "Certainly Turkey doesn’t
afraid of the Armenians but it understands that there is a question of political
retribution. Europe doesn’t want Turkey to be in the member of the EU, certainly
they must try to perform themselves in this way as if look we take steps but the
Armenians don’t want. And to our observation whether R. Kocharian doesn’t pour
water in the mill of the same Turkey Grigor Haroutiunian said: "At any case
it must be replied and it would be better to mention in the reply that the problem
of the Genocide can’t be the matter of discussion, it’s a fact which must be recognized."The
head of Democratic Party of Armenia, the member of "Justice bloc" Aram
G. Sargsian was also agreed with the stresses of Robert Kocharian’s reply: "Really
the problem of Genocide isn’t the matter of historians, as regards political contacts
I think we must take this opportunity for giving some questions." For the
member of "Republican" party Hermine Naghdalian the President’s reply
was 100% true: "I think that the President’s reply to Erdoghan expresses
the position that the Government of Armenia has had and has. That position is
effective it is a position responsible for the future, fate of peoples."By
the way Turkish media informs that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey examines
the RA President’s reply after which it will be sent to the Prime Minister. Yesterday
was also expected the declaration of the speaker of the MFA of Turkey Namik Tani
about R. Kocharian’s reply. Turkish diplomatic sources inform that the reply of
Turkish Government may be positive on the stipulation that the "Turkey Armenia
border will be recognized" and "they will return to the ideas of the
Genocide".Margaret Yesayan
