"PEOPLE HAVE IMMUNITY TOWARDS THE AUTHORITY"

April 01,2006 00:00

Vahagn
Khachatrian thinks so.- Political powers speak of the necessity of forming
a civil society. Is the way in this situation?- In reality, what happens and
happened needs in a deep analyze, especially by politicians, because I’m sure,
that we as a country aren’t the first to be in this situation. And if it is spoken
of normal democratic countries, the way of coming out from this situation is the
elections, even the permanent elections, as it happened in France, after the Second
World War. There are also non-democratic countries, which have tried to come out
from this situation by forming an authoritarian system trying to serve it for
two proposes, growth of prosperity of the country as it happened in the South
Korea, but then it became clear that system wasn’t able to assist the prosperity
of the country any more and the leaders of just the same country make democratic
proposals. There are also other countries, which were trying to solve their problems
by force but they didn’t understand till the end that the world wasn’t the same
today. I think we are among these last countries. And it is impossible to understand
that changeover of political powers will happen in usual, polite and democratic
way. The experience of our last years showed it. – The opposition isn’t unified
in further steps. The part of it thinks that they should prepare for special elections,
another part is going to take part in the coming elections, and didn’t the political
powers understand that we don’t have changeover of political powers in the result
of elections. – I think, what happened before will be repeated during the
coming elections. We all must be able to hold special elections. Look at the real
results of the elections; you’ll see that the people have made a right selection.
Our first problem is that to be able to produce us to the people. Not by changing
our position but by trying to produce our ideas, approaches more clearly. I’m
sure the society will gather and admit that they should go in our way.- Do
you see the political power, which will be able to lead the people?- No, unfortunately
there isn’t such a political power today, there are separate units, but they aren’t
enough to realize my problem. Everybody who carry out policy more than 10 years,
understand that problem can be solved only by cohesion. And the problem must be
solved not only in Yerevan but also in the whole republic. People have also been
changed and the citizen, too. And the greatest danger for the state is that the
people have immunity towards the authority, there isn’t any faith or trust.-
Do you consider possible that the "formers" and opposition powers today
unified and are against the authorities together?- I don’t admit the separation
of "formers" and opposition of today, because the opposition remains
the opposition. We all are dissatisfied from the authority and our dissatisfaction
is the same. We can say that they are more possibilities of joint works and collaboration
than it is possible to imagine.Margaret Yesayan
