You were insisting that there was no summon of violence during that meeting. While the record of speeches proves that Vardan Malkhasian has called “we must make any effort by weapon, armed struggle, revolt, everything, to get rid of these masked Turks. Blood, fire on the enemy by all ways.” And Jirayr Seyfilian has declared: “Who dares yield a piece of land, we’ll kill and blast him, and he has also agreed not practice discrimination in the struggle against the authorities. Why did you mislead the public, mentioning that there was no summon of using violence.
I haven’t misled the population, just the opposite, I was for publishing the speeches. And I have said that there were emotional speeches. I don’t consider those expressions as summons of violence. “Aravot” has also mentioned that Ara Sahakian, Victor Dallakian and other politicians have expressed such expressions in their public speeches. When they say, “we’ll kill blast them, internal Turks” you shouldn’t understand it literary. Finally, that meeting wasn’t a public one, and all standpoints expressed there shouldn’t be published. And even the representatives of oppositionist parties hadn’t been invited to consider it as an attempt to oblige them illegal and aggressive actions.
Only after this non-public meeting it became clear that the volunteers had signed a summon-declaration in June of this year and formed adherent groups. If you were a part of authority and informed about such a structure, which forms a secret union, and armed people are included in it whether it wouldn’t cause your anxiety?
Yes, of course, it may cause a deep anxiety, when people who have defended their homeland feel deep hostility towards the current authorities. And they express that antipathy by those extreme and rude expressions. At the same time I don’t think that people must be prosecuted criminally for some expressions and standpoints. It violates freedom of speech and isn’t admissible. People are pursued in democratic countries only for illegal actions. Illegal actions are certain steps, but it wasn’t spoken about the formation of groups during that meeting. None of the participants was armed. The authorities must worry about it but arrest isn’t the good way for that anxiety. The press was right publishing those summons. They aren’t summons of using violence, are they? These were expressions of accumulated complains, which must be expressed and discussed, the extreme demonstration of which are terrorism. The complaints of this group of people must become national.
