CRU 18th session was held on February 3 where the CRU leadership formed in 17th session was re-elected.
47 delegates and guests, representatives from about 10 opposition parties, journalists took part in the CRU session held in “Azdak” club. It was informed that it had been decided in the 17th session to hold a session in February and they were preparing for it since December 2006. Another point was added in the agenda after decree of
“More than 84% of delegates took part in the voting, – Hayk Babukhanian informed yesterday. – The members of leadership got more than 95% of votes”.
Hrant Khachatrian, Karen and Sedrak Vardanian, Hrayr Khachatrian made an announcement yesterday where they contested the legality of the held session. It is mentioned in particularly: “The absolute right to hold CRU special session, according to the 3.3 point of the CRU charter, belongs to the CRU leadership, and the latter hasn’t held any session yet.” Hayk Babukhanian said on this occasion yesterday: “According to CRU charter, special sessions are held either by the leadership or by the demands of 1/3 of CRU members.” Hrant Khachatrian said during his conversation with us; “Even if we agree that the 18th session was held by the regional representations, the leadership prepares the session”. In his opinion: “They shouldn’t speak of the legality of the 18th session as they should achieve that decree first of all.”
Hayk Babukhanian emphasized: “According to the charter of our party a session must be held once a year. If the 17th session was held in 2006, the former one, the 16th was held in 2003. They, these 3-4 members were elected in 2001 for the last time. A person who was elected in 2001 must be a professional provoker or mentally sick to consider himself as a member of a body after 6-7 years in that case when he must be re-elected for six times.”
It is also mentioned in the above-mentioned announcement: “Hayk Babukhanian, as the CRU vice president, hasn’t been ordered by CRU president Hrant Khachatrian to replace the CRU president since September 16.” Mr. Babukhanian replied to this announcement: “Mr. Khachatrian when was working as the leader of party before his resignation on September 20, has signed what he must sign. After September 20, he couldn’t give me instructions any more. He doesn’t exist here as the president any more. He, as a common member, couldn’t give any instruction to the vice president of the party. Instead I may give him instructions. I’m dissatisfied with his work in the NA. He represents CRU Party, and represents the party very badly”. In answer to our question may he be dismissed from the party, H. Babukhanian said: “It is possible if he continues in this way”. Hrant Khachatrian replied to this warning: “Shall I cry for that announcement. The Party membership card is in my pocket and it is enough for my memories connected with this party till the end of my life.”
