The majority of ULP regional structures describe their power in this way.
ULP is the only party, which allowed the press representative to be present at the enlarged sitting of their party\’s political council. The ULP was discussing the question of proportional list. The list, consisted of 88 politicians wasn\’t ready yet. Before discussing the list, ULP leader Gurgen Arsenyan spoke about one of the newspaper\’s publication as if the authorities had conducted a secret survey and found out that the society wanted to see Tigran Karapetyan\’s People\’s Party in the NA instead of ULP. That\’s why the OEP former members recruited People\’s Party. Mr. Arsenyan was interested from the heads of regional structures to evaluate their power. We should note here that ULP has more than thousand members and has its representations in all regions. In answer to the question, which place ULP will occupy, the representatives said “at least the third place”. The heads of 5-6 structures were even sure that the ULP would be the first in their regions. “We work for the third place, – the head of the party said and proposed to participate in the NA elections. Arthur Petrosyan and Levon Poghosyan, the members of ULP political council, the ULP current parliamentarians won\’t be involved in the list by their own initiative. Mr. Arsenyan explained their decision as the result of “their own revision of evaluation the legislative work” and said that they wanted to be engaged in development area of executive and economic systems. Head of “Mshak” company Levon Poghosyan said: “My decision comes from the interests of future parliament. It seems to me, we have politicians who are capable in working the legislative arena more effectively.” Mr. Arsenyan noted that “nobody contests the efficiency of Levon Poghosyan\’s activities, they all have worked very effectively and usefully”, and will remain in the ULP but not in the parliament.
In Gurgen Arsenyan\’s words “There aren\’t any politician in the ULP proportional list who has no connection with the party”. Gurgen Arsenyan leads the party, the second is Grigor Ghonjeyan, Sergey Sarajyan, the rector of Conservatory, is the third one in the list, the fourth is NA parliamentarian Hripsime Avetisyan, Tamara Gevorgyan, the deputy minister of Social Security, is the fifth one, the sixth one is chief of NA standing commission Mnatsakan Petrosyan, the seventh is one of the founders of the Army of Independence, Smbat Aghayan, Yenok Azaryan, the chief of the qualification commission of the Advocates\’ Chamber, is the eighth in the list, Anahit Hovanisyan , the head of “Doctors Without Borders” Armenian-Belgian organization, is the ninth person in the ULP list and the tenth place goes to Samvel Hovsepyan, the member Ekrapah Voluntary Union.
Former Minister of Culture Karen Aristakesyan was the 16th in the list, as for the current minister, who was nominated by ULP, wasn\’t in the list. “He isn\’t the ULP member”, – reminded G. Arsenyan. – We have also announced that we don\’t want our culture to be influenced by the party”.
