“They are cowards indeed”, – the representatives of “Impeachment” were assuring the citizens of Echmiadzin.
The “Impeachment” alliance left for Armavir and Aragatsotn regions within the frameworks of parliamentary campaign on 28-29 of April. “Impeachment” was in Echmiadzin, the generals’ city, on Saturday where the atmosphere of fear made one of the local residents describe the city as a “barracks condition” in answer to our question why few people had gathered. The meeting took place in the civil park. Before the meeting the “Impeachment’s” truck convoy drove round the main streets of Echmiadzin announcing the time and place of the meeting and reminding the slogans of the alliance: “No to the foolishness, robots and sergeants”, “Let’s resign Kocharyan’s criminal regime together”. Two jeeps were following the truck convoy, which, as we learned later, were urging the citizens not to participate in the meeting. Anyway, about 300 persons were participating in the meeting. One of them told that he didn’t afraid as he was not young and had nothing to lose, though he assured: “there is some fear, today you are here, but tomorrow you aren’t”.
Representative of the alliance Vahagn Khachatryan opened the meeting. First of all he explained why “Impeachment”, which mainly consists of “Alternative” public-political initiative’s members and two parties, “Democratic Homeland” and “Conservative Party of Armenia” had decided to participate in the parliamentary elections. In his words, “Alternative” represents a certain and complex project to avert the crisis in the country and to achieve it they must get rid of the current authorities. But the latter make any effort to rig the elections and to be reproduced. And as the TV broadcasts are closed for the initiative, they decided to participate in the campaign to use those two minutes of propaganda for sending their messages to the people. V. Khachatryan and other speakers emphasized that they hadn’t come to ask the citizens to vote for them. They considered important the necessity of fair elections.
One of the speakers was Susanna Harutiunyan, the former candidate in N19 polling station. She said that there had never been such irregularities, illegalities in Echmiadzin and our country before: “Two blockheads have made Echmiadzin a barracks. Don’t afraid of them, people, you are the generals of this city.” In S. Harutiunyan’s words, nowadays the authorities and the couple of generals, Manvel Grigoryan, Seyran Saroyan, are very frightened. Otherwise Saroyan wasn’t afraid of the woman contender and didn’t get rid of her with the help of illegalities. Mrs. Harutiunyan also said addressing her words to the both generals: “What generals are you, when a frightened soldier is behind you. Whose generals are you? If there is a necessity to defend the country who will listen to your call and defend=d our homeland? Frightened people e who hate you?” She also told “people mustn’t be mistaken any more and must make their selection between the oligarchs’ recurrent regime and building legal country”.
“Impeachment” visited Aragatsotn region on Sunday and was in Ohanavan, Saghmosavan, Mughni, Karpi, Parpi and Agarak villages, held a manifestation in Ashtarak, where a lot of people had gathered. The villagers of Agarak were for the changeover of political powers but “there aren’t persons like Sahakashvili here”. Nikol Pashinyan and Vahagn Khachatryan’s speeches were welcomed warmly here. People were promising to participate in the elections though they didn’t believe “are you able, will you manage?” they were asking. “Each of us has something to do, the only person on whom the future of our country depends, is you”, – Pashinyan reminded.
