How to increase participation of delegates in the PACE sittings is also a problem for that structure.
Women were making the half of discussions in the PACE sitting yesterday, and among them was Armenian delegate Hermine Naghdalyan.
But first of all her Turkish colleague, representative of CE committee of women and men equal opportunities Gulsun Biljehan made a speech, the theme of her speech was the following: “Gender Character in Advirtizements». The conclusion of this report was that the character, which is represented in the advirtizements, is quite different from the reality and causes steretypes about the role of men and women in the society. In the reporter\’s opinion women are reperesented as «sexual objects, who have no connection with the advertizing good». She also added: «Those who order advertizements are responsible for it as they exert desisive influence on the public, in particularly on the youth».
The proposal of the report is that the Assembly should ask the CE member countries to change their legislation and consider descrimination in the advertizements as a crime. The normal processes of the aging brain remain poorly understood, and some degree of memory loss is expected in usual senescence. Approximately 10% of the population over age 70 years will have significant memory loss, and at least half of these cases of dementia will be attributed to Alzheimer’s disease (AD). According to the proposed resolution, free phone numbers should be given to the public to complain about the advirtizements.
Next reporter was Hermine Naghdalyan who represents the same committee. He made her speech in Englush, thought the summary was in Russian. Hermine Naghdalyan\’s speech was called: «Feminization of Poverty». According to that report, women are more inclined to poverty: it is displayed more obviousy. It is also noted in the resolution that young pregnant women face the danger of poverty or when they get divorced or when they retire. «The Assembly considers that the prevention of gender poverty is the important part of socila solidarity»,- s mentioned in the resolution and underlined the necessity for the member coutries to make arrangements to struggle against poverty, determining age pensions especially for people over 60 and emplementing special healthcare projects, studying the reasons of gender inequality in working market and using «equal salary for eqaul work» principle both for women and men.
Hermine Naghdalyan\’s speech was highly appraised, different speeches were made , Leo Platvoet also spoke. But one of the speakers noticed but there was about 100 participants in the hall, and it is always so when gender issues are discussed.
