NDP leader Shavarsh Kocharyan is sure that nowadays atmosphere in the opposition sphere is hopeless, he is sure that the opposition will participate in the presidential elections with a joint candidate.
– The political forces, which weren\’t elected in the parliamentary elections are passive, aren\’t they?
– Firts of all I think that those forces should be oriented. There is a question whether the opposition won in these elections but the authority didn\’t allow them to come to power. I think nobody will say that it is so. The opposition must review the reasons of his defeat and understand why it didn\’t get the desirable number of votes. The results of presidential elections will be the same without this review. Maybe a new opposition should be elected as this kind of opposition is already expired.
– But it is known that several opposition forces negotiate with a new format, this time presenting core and not joint candidate.
– We hear about this for about four years, that they negotiate, discuss, arrange something, for instance about joint list, joint candidate in 41 electoral commissions, formation of joint headquarters etc. So they have always had those kind of conversations but that is all. The problem isn’t the negotiation, the problem is much deeper.
– What do you mean?
– I\’ll explain. The opposition thinks that this authority hasn\’t satisfied the demands of the country. So what does the opposition offer for core issues? The second, we should finally realize what mistakes we have made during for the last years which didn\’t allow the opposition to come to power. I speak about the victory of votes at least.
– Can you tell us the first three mistakes you have made?
– One of the mistakes is that the necessity of revolution is being noted everytime. This groundless affirmation desperates people. The second, the opposition found itself in such a ridiculous situation which can be even recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. The opposition struggles for amendments, even small, which lead to democracy in all countries but we had an amusing case in our country: when the authorities made positive constitutional amendments, the opposition was against those changes. The president’s authorities were limited, the opposition was against it. The next was the “Electoral Code” which is of core importance for the elections. Instead of joining our draft, they joined the authority’s draft, a draft where there are no important items.
– You are the only oppositionist who shows the mistakes of the opposition and criticizes it. That’s why several oppositionists accuse you of certain arrangements as if a position has been promised to you.
– If what I say is wrong, let them explain it.
– There are two opposition parties in the parliament, explain their activities as an experienced parliamentarian.
– The power of the opposition should have quality and not quantity. The role of opposition is to present deep, alternative approaches in the parliament.
– Do you believe that the opposition will participate in the presidential elections with one or two candidate (joint and core).
– There was enough time to take those steps I had told before, it wasn’t done but it isn’t excluded that it will happen though nowadays atmosphere is hopeless.
