ARF IS FOR PRINCIPLES

July 17,2007 00:00

ARF Bureau representative Hrant Margaryan keeps insisting that the Public channel shouldn’t allocate hours of frequency to the broadcasting station of other countries.

You told in the interview to “Azatutiun” b/s that your national dignity is offended when the Public Channel allocates broadcasts to other countries. In that case why don’t you offend when the U.S. donates millions of dollars to our country or why do you do your best to receive dollars coming by “Millennium Challenge” project? So you should refuse those amonts in favor your dignity.

The wave  which raised after  my interview, was an organized campaign against freedom of expression. This isn\’t a good atmosphere. This is the atmosphere of fear. Even the initiators of this law don\’t dare to say anything. This is what we call terror. How many countries do allocate their state propaganda sources to other state to involve it into ints internal issues. I insist that no hour of the state channel should be allocated to another country. Our organization has paid a big amount for the freedom of experience and is ready to pay. If a country allocates frequency to another country to carry out interested policy in the internal  issues of its countries, this is a sign of weakness. This is different from intergovernmental relations. I have nothing against «Azatutiun» broadcasting station, I have a principle approach. I mean the most elementary principality, point of state dignity and it isn\’t aimed against «Azatutiun» b/s or U.S.A. Regarding the loans and assistance coming from foreign countries, nobody feels good for that, it will bring nothing good. We should struggle to make Armenia such a country which won\’t need in any assistance.

ARF has TV and Radio transmissions all over the world, why shouldn’t “Azatutiun” also have?

You also have written about it. I should say tat it is a primitive approach because Dashnaktsutiun doesn’t have such transmissions. Simply the states allocate their Armenian minorities broadcast or telecast, like we allocate to our national minorities.

You also said that your national dignity is offended when the state allocates radio hours to another state because of the material lack.

When it was allocated, we indeed had problems; we needed in increasing our budget.

So if we feel good we shouldn’t listen to “free” expression.

It isn’t the problem of free speech, this is the problem of selling own broadcast to another state, and this has no connection with the freedom of experience. Open “Azatutiun” b/s, listen and open “Radiolur”, which was before “Azatutiun”. And look at the difference between.

Do you speak as a representative of the authority?

No, I speak as a citizen of Armenia.

Factually, you are the only authority representative who publicly spoke against “Azatutiun” b/s, while we were thinking that just RPA and Roper Kocharyan himself was interested in closing “Azatutiun”. Why did you take the responsibility?

I don’t have such intentions, I want to my people to know the truth.
