Parliamentary forces don’t want to interpret Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s speech.
“I have no doubt that several opponents will declare with a serious faces that Ter-Petrosyan only constated facts and criticized, without proposing any project solution and replying to the accusations addressed to him and former authorities,”- the First President declared in his speech during the rally held on 26 October. And he was not wrong since everybody in the parliament was busy in discussing and analyzing that speech but not everybody wanted to express his opinion publicly. “Don’t ask me please”, “Don’t disturb me” were their answers. One of the lawmakers told us: “Why has he kept silence for 10 years, he was living and ignoring even those problems which he had raised. Why has he appeared now?” Unfortunately we promised not to publish our interlocutor’s name. Others, giving official answers to our questions said the following. NA chairman Tigran Torosyan, in answer to “Aravot’s” question whether RPA is going to change its strategy after Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s nomination, said: “RPA is so influential that it doesn’t need to change its strategy. It will be meaningless if the most influential force changes its strategy in connection with any candidate’s nomination”. NA chairman Tigran Torosyan said on Friday rally: “It was done everything to gather more people. I don’t think that their expectations are confirmed.” Mr. Torosyan didn’t give any interpretation on the occasion of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s thoughts.
Head of NA commission of foreign issues, RA presidential candidate Armen Rustamyan didn’t want to interpret Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s speech saying that the speech should be examined. “It is long enough, and I am not ready to give a remark. Regarding his nomination, our standpoint has been the same before his official announcement, it is still the same, and we have very normal attitudes towards that nomination and think that this nomination will allow carrying out political-ideological debate. We have welcomed that debate and think that it will be useful to hold fair elections, this means that the political developments will become more interesting and a serious competition is waiting for us. We are ready for that competition”. ARF strategy will no be changed since Armen Rustamyan assures that his party’s strategy has no connection with the nominees. ARF representative doesn’t think that the Friday rally means that the First President was asked by the nation and he nominated.
Deputy of “Heritage” faction Larissa Alaverdyan considers Ter-Petrosyan’s nomination not only the latter’s wish but also the wish of those forces, “which have been a part of authority in time. And I think that their standpoints have remained the same.” Larissa Alaverdyan thinks that the difference of the First President other candidates is that in case of the first: “There is a group which has been the authority in time and now wants to return. It is a factor.” Anyway Mrs. Alaverdyan estimates Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s opportunity very “low” because she thinks that “it can not be progressive to be unchangeable in changed conditions”. She considers Raffi Hovanisyan as a real alternative.
We were informed from the office of “Rule of Law Party” Party that they had positive attitudes towards Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s nomination but didn’t want to interpret his speech.
