Arthur Baghdasaryan said who was announced as a presidential candidate yesterday.
“There are very parties in Armenia, which are experienced both in the opposition arena and authority. There are very few parties for the ARFD with whom we have collaborated both as a part of the coalition and today as an opposition”,- ARFD faction leader Hrayr Karapetyan said in the 8th special session of the “Rule of Law” Party (OEK). ARFD was the only party in the authority which has been invited in the OEK session.
We should note that there are also very few parties in Armenia where the cult of personality exists. Arthur Baghdasaryan was greeted by the posters with his photo, the participants of the session were applauding him standing from their seats and crying “Arthur, president”. The applauses interrupted Arthur\’s speech for several times. As for OEK members, their speeches were look like dithyrambs addressed to the party leader. OEK leader who was being praised by his supporters, said in his speech: “Dependent and unfair society is the result of unfair and dependent authority, the authority which is born not from the people but from the same authority, and the content of which isn\’t changed during 15 years. As a result, today we have a country, which is considered democratic but freedom of the speech is imprisoned in reality, where the juridical authority is considered independent but the justice is controlled, where the profitable spheres of economy are distributed among authority representatives, where the votes of the poor are sold, where the patriarchs of corruption aren\’t punished”.
Arthur Baghdasaryan also explained why he didn\’t join Levon Ter-Petrosyan: “Not only for the reason that we don\’t consider our country as a state of robbers, are we against his intention to destroy state-authority system of our country. We have built a country which is independent and our flag is hanged in different capitals of the world as a symbol of our independence”. He also declared that they are ready to collaborate, with all healthy forces which are ready to struggle for the country improvement.
