PERSECUTIONS

March 25,2008 00:00

  Which are over by arrests.

You may see the same scene near Freedom Square on the North Avenue in the evenings of March 22, 23, 24. Groups of people were gathering: women, young people, Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s adherents etc. Sometimes they were crying “Levon-Levon”. The young people were singing “I love my country” song.  But the policemen were reminding that they had no right to be present there so they should leave the square in 10 minutes. “Otherwise we will take legal measures”. Then they were making people walk and leave the square, and then the same happened in the Republic Square, on Abovyan Street.

Persecutions of common people

Every time the police arrest the participants of the “people’s walking” and set them free later. For instance, yesterday they arrested two young men, one of them was sitting on the bench.

The majority of participants in silent protest action held on March 21 are set free after paying the administrative fines. “Only Abovyan citizen Arman by name is not set free, whose surname is not clear yet, it is also not clear what he is accused of”,-  Armen Khachatryan, the coordinator of juridical assistance of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s office said. “David Aghayan from Masis was also brought to the Police station, the same happened to Andranik Manukyan from Eghvard who is a second class invalid. Razmik Tevanyan from Ararat who is Vazgen Sargsyan’s friend was also arrested on March 22.

Armen Khachatryan also said that NA parliamentarian Samvel Alexanyan’s bodyguards visit Bagrat Andreasyan, deputy head of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s headquarters in Malatia-Sebastia community. It seems that our oligarchs work instead of law enforcement bodies. We call our adherents not to respond to any invitation besides the legal ones from the Police, NSS or Prosecutor’s office.

Persecution of Leaders

The interrogation of “Republic”Party leader Aram Sargsyan was continued yesterday. Aram Sargsyan told “Azatutyun” b/s that the majority of questions were political and added: “Our movement in the legal sphere is very correct”.

David Shahnazaryan was also invited to the Kentron Police Station but he refused of answering any questions declaring that he doesn’t agree with any accusation and all these are political persecutions.

An action of protest took place in Vanatur village of Kotayk region against Sasun Mikaelyan’s arrest. Fortunately this action was not prevented by the police.
