“I WILL DO MY BEST TO HELP THE NEW GOVERNMENT”

April 18,2008 00:00

Vazgen Manoukyan said in his press conference.

“Certainly the presidential elections have not been fair. I am an oppositionist but I will do my best for this government to be successful. I want this government to have right assignments. If there are questions regarding the state security or admissible reforms, I will assist them by all means. If there are problems we will struggle”, – NDU leader Vazgen Manukyan said breaking two-month silence. In his opinion Armenia has two ways; “Either we want this government to fail… The struggle achieves its logical end, and what will happen to Armenia till the end of that struggle, that man doesn’t worry. But it will be bad for all of us. Or we want them to have success and solve our problems in parallel.”  He explains his optimism in this way: “I have seen what kind of President Levon Ter-Petrosyan has been; He has been a very bad president. I have not seen what kind of President Serge Sargsyan has been, Khrushchov had been working with Stalin for a long time, and Khrushchov’s and Stalin’s way of ruling had been quite different. As a citizen of Armenia I wish we would have such a precedent…Since he is already the president, he is better to be a good president. We want this government to be successful for Armenia but we are also still for our program; Constitutional amendments in 2-3 years and new elections. If you don’t agree, the court will find out.”

Vazgen Manukyan also told some details about his meeting with Serge Sargsyan. By the way he met with him with his own initiative; both political and economical questions have been discussed. “We spoke about the new government. No name, no position has been discussed; my candidacy has not been discussed. If there is a proposal, I will discuss it, I don’t worry. I think that the government should be repaired essentially”.

In answer to “Aravot’s” question that during Serge Sargsyan’s inauguration all near streets were closed and the territory was surrounded by policemen with truncheons, Vazgen Manukyan said: “I understand why they took that step… What will happen if it wasn’t so… Do you think about scenarios?” And says about the incident on March 1: “If blood is flowed inside a state, the authorities of that state are always responsible. The court will decide who is guilty”.
