The so-called law about the opposition was discussed in the NA among other issues.
This idea was being manipulated especially in the period of parliamentary elections. Though this idea was very popular it became a law very immediately without any discussions with the interested forces. On this occasion there are a lot of unknown things in the draft. According to several interpretations the discussion of such a law is an attempt to negotiate with the opposition. “They want to assign the opposition members in different positions and alley dissatisfaction of the population by that. It is not a solution to negotiate with the real opposition. The parliament doesn’t express the public moods and orientations. The best law for the opposition would be the liquidation of the parliament as a body which obeys the authority and commits a lot of crimes as a collective body”, – “Republic” party member Suren Surenyants said.
Yesterday “Aravot” tried to find out whether the enlargement of the opposition’s authorities is the enlargement of democratic rights in Armenia. It becomes clear that even the opposition does not have the same idea. The leader of Communist Party of Armenia doesn’t understand at all what the law about the opposition means. “Who will decide what the opposition will do today or tomorrow, especially in this National Assembly. The opposition has such components that it is impossible to regulate by any law. This is not democracy; this is a step by which they want to show that something is done.” Lyudmila Sargsyan said: “I don’t believe that something will be changed to good in this country with this NA and authority. I don’t think that these are fair steps for democracy. They simply want to present something on June 17 in the PACE and assure the latter that positive steps are being taken. If they are so powerful party and do not afraid of people, let them set the political prisoners free.”
Member of “new Times” Party Hrachya Sarsgyan welcomes that idea, reminding that their party is the first one which considered important to have such a law. The political arena we have since our independence shows that the law about the opposition is a necessity”, – Mr. Sargsyan hoping that there will be a stage for discussion and they will be able to express their opinion.
