Yesterday, Thomas Hammarberg, the Commissioner for Human Rights at the Council of Europe presented the report on his activities in 2010. First was John Prescott who asked him a question whether he will refer to March 1 victims’ issue in his report on Armenia. “The report is not made public yet”, answered Mr. Hammarberg. “And it is obvious that we will certainly refer to the investigation of 10 people’s killings.” A little later, Zaruhi Postanjyan handed him info about all the attacks on the opposition for the past two months; about Samson Khachatryan’s case, about things that happened with the Heritage Party in front of the cabinet building on March 3 and about the charges against her brother.
And Naira Zohrabyan asked a question, “Azerbaijan has recently threatened to shoot down the civil airplanes flying to Nagorno-Karabakh. This is no other than a threat of state terrorism. Are you intending to react to those as the Commissioner for Human Rights?” Thomas Hammarberg answered that he was very anxious about both the NK issue and the tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but he did not want to compete with the OSCE Minsk Group. The Azerbaijani delegates also asked about Armenia.
