After the assignment of the president of the RA Serzh Sargsyan to accelerate the uncovering of the criminal case on March 1-2 2008 events and conduct a multilateral investigation, more than a month has passed. However yesterday the head of the investigation group conducting the investigation of the criminal case, the chief detective of the SIA EIC stated that there is nothing new particularly in regard to the uncovering of the cases of 10 dead of the “March 1” events. Seda Safaryan, the representative of the Heritage Party in the Fact-Gathering Group examining “March 1” events said, “I think that the SIA should not be appointed to uncover that case again. Another organ should be appointed for that, an organ that has not worked on that case and is not restrained by the uncovering of new facts. To put a man (Vahagn Harutyunyan) in a condition that you have to change your position on the case and make discoveries will not work. The president, if he even wants to make discoveries, has to do that not through that organ. The issue here is not the creation of an imitation of a new investigation of the case, but that the assignment is doomed to fail from the beginning. The SIA cannot take the responsibility for thoroughly investigating that case today. We have gathered lots of information on the SIA detectives’ costly and obvious mistakes and out of the blue that same SIA is assigned to start a new process on that case. No discoveries will be made in that manner.”
