Will the ANC “play”?

June 18,2011 00:00

\"\"  According to Levon Barseghyan, Serzh Sargsyan is no chess player, but a surfer

Yesterday President Serzh Sargsyan responded to the ANC and responded in a quite original manner. One can perceive from that long-expected response – whatever you wish and however you wish. Yesterday we inquired from head of the Gyumri “Asparez” journalistic club Levon Barseghyan concerning Serzh Sargsyan’s speech what was his impression whether Serzh Sargsyan was responding yes to the ANC or no. “My doubts that Serzh Sargsyan is just being cunning have been confirmed. He does everything to stall for time”, said our interlocutor whose impression was that Serzh Sargsyan also tries to “privatize” the dialogue idea. Our interlocutor made an impressive comparison concerning this, “During parties one of men that are not very close to each other comes up and warmly embraces and kisses the other to show the public that they are old friends. Serzh Sargsyan stalls for time and makes it clear that guys if you do not accept this principle, it does not matter, I am going to play you, to play with you. And eventually he explicitly says at some point that he is against the idea of the pre-term election sending the ANC to the respective addresses.” Serzh Sargsyan shows explicit addresses to the ANC. He says in the case of what issues where one can apply – if you are interested in the elections, then to the NA Speaker, if in the economy, then to the Prime Minister, if you need his interference to the president’s chief of staff. To “Aravot’s” remark whether this is the delegation that the Congress demands and expects from Serzh Sargsyan Levon Barseghyan responded, “Even if it is so, that confirms the assumption of his cunningness and shows quite explicitly that his game is only stalling for time.” In this regard, Levon Barseghyan makes resemblances between Serzh Sargsyan’s behavior and the behavior of “a very good surfer” who catches the wave crest quite well and starts to row on it. Our interlocutor does not believe in Serzh Sargsyan’s honesty either when the latter tries to convince in his speech that the dialogue idea did not rise from the external pressure, “He knows quite well that his actions of having a dialogue and releasing the political prisoners were carried out under the external pressure, otherwise he would have released those people earlier.” Another rally of the ANC will take place on June 30 that the ANC members have been presenting as cornerstone-like, turning or with other adjectives in their interviews lately. One thing is obvious – the people who still participate in the ANC rallies will go to the June 30 rally with expectations. They will go to understand eventually whether there will be a divide or it will never take place. In this regard, we inquired what countermoves the ANC should make. What expectations does he, Levon Barseghyan have? “My revolutionary character suggests what moves I expect from the ANC. The public as well as I displeased with the political, socio-economic situation expect that this regime must be ended. This regime is incorrigible. Serzh Sargsyan along with his whole administration does not learn real lessons. He wants to rule along with his administration and his brass not paying attention to the serious problems our country faces, bluffing and playing. I expect that the ANC should go for fundamental moves. It is a pity, but I have suspicions that the Congress will not go for such moves.” We noted that first president has publicly stated many times that the Congress is against revolutionary processes. Therefore, it turns out that Serzh Sargsyan will succeed in stalling for the process. Levon Barseghyan responded, “Serzh Sargsyan has succeeded in being the Minister of Defense for 7 years, “October 27” events occurred and it did not even occur to him to give in his resignation. In that respect, Serzh Sargsyan is quite experienced, there is no doubt that he will do everything with his administrative resources to stay in power.” As for the Congress and first president, it is not clear for our interlocutor what Ter-Petrossian means by saying “a revolution”. He, Levon Barseghyan, means a revolution in minds, the complete use of the means of civil disobedience, that every official serving the regime feels the public despise, hate, displeasure every second, that he enters his office with reprehension and disgrace and leaves there with the same disgrace.

And if suddenly even after the June 30 rally the ANC sends the public to drink another cup of coffee or tea, our interlocutor is convinced that the last hope will be dashed, since supporting this force for years the public has, nevertheless, cherished hope. However, our interlocutor does not think that the real possibility of negotiating or having a dialogue has been lost yet. “Serzh Sargsyan along with his regime has to see that there is a serious resistance and the people do not play. There is only one thing left that on July 30 the people do not play anymore.”
