The MP who lived on the rooftop for a short while

August 19,2011 00:00

\"\"Heritage Party MP Armen Martirosyan got off the rooftop of a booth, because another booth was being dismantled and he could not stand on both rooftops at the same time. On August 11 Heritage Party MP Armen Martirosyan stood on the rooftop of quite an old booth in order to save it from dismantlement, which was, according to the government mass media, a cigarette booth that did not have a contract, the owner of which accepted the fact that his booth would be transferred into another, legal place. At “Aravot’s” request, Armen Martirosyan told the details of what had happened, “When we met the Prime Minister on August 11, then received an alarm that the dismantling process continued. Anahit Bakhshyan and I went to Papazyan Street and I saw that they were dismantling a booth there. The police officers told me that the owner agreed on having his booth dismantled. However, shortly afterwards the booth keepers said that in fact the owner did not agree. I asked who was the owner and they showed me that man. I asked whether he was for having his booth dismantled, he answered no. I said OK. Then the well-known conversation took place, which, as I know, has already been uploaded to YouTube. They say to the officer of the Arabkir municipality that the Prime Minister said that the dismantling process should be personal and be frozen at this moment and he answers that what the Prime Minister said is not a command for him.” Let us interfere; Armen Martirosyan puts the answer quite mildly. In the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNPc84pki2Q& feature=player_embedded) shot by “Hraparak’s” reporter it can be heard how an official says, “What that jerk signed is nothing to us. There is a decision made by the mayor.” One of the booth owners by the name of Anna answers him, “Is the Prime Minister nothing to you? Are you dry behind the ears to say so? Who are you to say something like that? Are you from the municipality?”
Let us get back to the story why Armen Martirosyan chose that way of protecting the booth, “I told the police officers that they defended an unlawful process, don’t dismantle. The representatives of the municipality answered, no, it must be dismantled. In order that they might not dismantle I climbed on the rooftop of the booth, because they had already brought the crane to lift it.” After that the Deputy Chief of Police of Arabkir continuously persuaded the MP to climb down from the rooftop and eventually put forward a powerful argument, “He said that this is not the only booth that man had, he had several booths, he is not poor”, told Mr. Martirosyan. “But it doesn’t matter. So if he is not poor, shall we make him poor? Is our goal to make everyone poor and make several superrich?” In the end, the decisive factor to make Armen Martirosyan to climb down was the following, “Anahit Bakhshyan came that had gone to talk to the head of the Arabkir administrative district. She said, climb down. While I was standing on that rooftop, they were dismantling another one; they had found the solution to the issue. Since I could not stand on two places at the same time, I had to climb down.” At the end of the conversation, we inquired how he treated the interpretations that this kind of actions of the Heritage Party and other opposition parties are dictated by the desire of gaining more supporters for the upcoming election. “That is right”, said Armen Martirosyan. “The Heritage Party has been preparing for the upcoming election and working through sruggle for the protection of the interests of the citizens since June 1 2007, since it entered the parliament. In 2012, when we enter the parliament once again, we will start struggling for the interests of the citizens, in the run-up to the upcoming parliamentary election.”
P.S. The ANC has created a work group for protection of the rights of the booth owners, which is managed by deputy chairman of the Pan-Armenian National Movement board Samvel Abrahamyan who had already dropped hints at the Heritage Party during a conversation with “Lragir.am” yesterday, “All those who will deal with this issue, want to help the participants of the protest action, whether we are those or some MPs, should clearly understand that they should not make the demand of the people turn into a request by their actions, as it has been before, when such initiatives were ruined afterwards. ”
