After the appellate court, yesterday the Human Rights Defender found itself involved in a dispute with the Ministry of Education. The statements followed each other; moreover, in one of them the Human Rights Defender mentioned “the demagogy, characteristic of some present generation leaders and the empty assessments, characteristic of some Soviet leaders” in the message of the Ministry of Education. In response to that the Ministry of Education spread a new message, which read “our worst expectations came true; the situation in the Human Rights Defender’s office is more serious than one could imagine.” In response to “Aravot’s” question, what he thought of the criticism of the Ministry of Education, press secretary of the Human Rights Defender Mariam Barseghyan said, “I can only conclude that the Ministry of Education has not put forward any reasonable argument for the claim that there have been no violations of human rights during the competition process at issue. Only demagogic statements were presented. Let us hope that the Ministry of Education, instead of making unserious statements, will eventually manage to organize the competitions, as it is in Minister Ashotyan’s official letter. Let us also hope that it will also establish fair competitive order and hold competitions without human rights violations.”
