Did making the political line public uncover the face of “Free Democrats”?

August 27,2011 00:00

\"\"Executive secretary of the HHSh board Vahagn Hayotsyan voiced mutual accusations about former board chair Alexander Arzumanyan’s assessments of HHSh during a conversation with “Aravot”.

– Former chair of the HHSh board Alexander Arzumanyan during an interview given to our newspaper said that HHSh not only had given up the liberal ideology, but also had lost the independence and served the Congress and its interests. What is your comment on this assessment of your former fellow party member? Why has HHSh become a servant of the Congress?
– It is mere demagogy. The goals declared by the Congress completely coincide with the primary political goals of both HHSh and other member parties of the Congress, i.e. to restore the constitutional order in Armenia. The activities of the Congress member parties are completely realized by the activities of the Congress, which is where the strength of the Congress lies.
– How do you treat the fact that MR. Arzumanyan has become a member of the “Free Democrats” Party and that generally the number of former HHSh members is not small in that newly established party?
– I treat it quite calmly. It is the right of every one. Generally, I prefer assessing not individuals, but the activities of the political unit established by them. In that respect, the most important thing for me in Arzumanyan’s interview is the discovery of the political line of the newly established party, according to which, “Free Democrats” think that there are no conditions for the pre-term election in Armenia. The significant thing is that this position completely coincides with the position of the authorities, as well as Dashnaktsutyun, the Heritage Party, Tigran Karapetich and other political groups serving the authorities, which are mobilized to explain the “arguments” of the authorities during the negotiations between the ANC and the authorities.
– Present member of the HHSh board Hovhannes Igityan expressed skepticism, again during a conversation with “Aravot” that the dialogue could solve the problems existing in Armenia. What will you say about that?
– The difference of viewpoints or assessments in a free party is quite natural. As to the assessment made by Hovhannes Igityan, the dialogue was not supposed to solve all the problems existing in Armenia. The dialogue was supposed to solve one problem, restoration of the constitutional order through a pre-term election, which is on the negotiation table.
– By the way, is the dialogue over, after yesterday events or do you see a possibility of continuation?
– The answer to this question is given by the ANC statement made on 26.08.2011.
– A week is left till the end of the ANC deadline, September. Is it known what will happen afterwards?
– Read carefully Levon Ter-Petrossian’s statement made at the August 2 rally, which gives the answer to your question. You’ll wait and see the rest.
