The establishment missed the “historic moment”

September 15,2011 00:00

\"\"Leader of the Liberal Party of Armenia Hovahannes Hovhannisyan is not surprised that the prospering NA Speaker does not see a revolutionary situation in Armenia

– NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan said yesterday, in response to the ANC steps to be taken and ANC statements that he did not see a revolutionary situation in Armenia. He mentioned a few problems instead – Karabakh, the relations with Turkey – and observed that it would be better, if all the political forces, including the ANC, “sit down and discuss what direction, what reform we implement wrong and we will correct it.” How one should perceive this proposal under the conditions of suspended dialogue?
– We gave that chance to the establishment, supposedly to Hovik Abrahamyan too. They did not realize that, could not perceive that historic moment, because they were not ready, they were not able to understand. As ruling authorities they lost the chance. After the ANC takes its steps they will deeply regret. As to the situation in the country, their entourage lives a prosperous and very prosperous life, therefore they cannot understand in what conditions the people live, what situation exists in the country. They did not understand that in Egypt, Libya and Syria either. Everyone thinks that it cannot happen with him, but it happens to everyone.
– Only seven months are left until the regular election, do you think a pre-term election is possible during this period?
– There will surely be a pre-term election, even if three or one month is left. It is not a whim of the ANC, but there is no other way out of this situation for our country.
– Although the ANC representatives promised, but the latest rally was not massive and turning. It was stated during the rally that 500 thousand people are needed to conduct a revolution. Are you sure that so many people will take the street during the next rallies?
– 500 thousand is a symbolic number; it does not mean that we are going to count people one-by-one. It means a joint will of the people. The number of dissatisfied people is more than of satisfied, but the Congress doesn’t need 500 thousand people to gather in the square, in order to take steps. The ANC will take steps; those are prepared and elaborated.
– In 2008 a large number of people stood by the ANC. “March 1” took place, it was followed by events, including really revolutionary situations that the Congress missed. Do you think the majority of the people will trust the ANC after all that again?
– During three years of the Congress’s existence all our steps have aimed at the people’s prosperity and country’s stability. It is not like the Congress missed its opportunities; the ANC treated the situation more responsibly, than the establishment. And today I am convinced the people do not see an alternative, there is no alternative. The Congress has proved during this period that it is the only alliance that has the power to change and will necessarily change the regime.
– Zhirayr Sefilyan, the coordinator of the association that is part of the “Union of Armenian Volunteers” initiative, still part of the ANC, stated yesterday that in the run-up to the election the ANC will disintegrate, because profit-seekers and people who prefer personal interest are not few there either.
– I don’t want to make a comment, but if people make statements, they must be responsible for their words and if they are involved in politics, they must understand that they should not make emotional statements, and it is not serious. Not everyone can be a politician. Politics is a deep process, it is not a statement made in an instant, politics is not a moment; it is a process.
