According to the message spread by the Attorney General’s Office of Armenia yesterday, Attorney General of Armenia Aghvan Hovsepyan ordered the Special Investigation Service of Armenia to take over the preliminary investigation of the case concerning the argument between the police and 7 activists of the youth wing of the Armenian National Congress. The preliminary investigation that lasted 18 days was finished at the end of August, however opposition activist Artak Karapetyan, familiarizing himself with the case materials, stated that they didn’t correspond to the reality and expressed readiness to testify. After that statement the preliminary investigation was recommenced. The Attorney General’s Office of Armenia officially stated yesterday, “The accused testified during the preliminary investigation that the police officers had used violence against them. Therefore, the Attorney General ordered the Special Investigation Service to take over the criminal case, in order to guarantee the objectiveness and versatility of the criminal case.”
