“The participation in alliance with others must not be an end in itself”

– The internal political situation seems to develop more on the backstage and few visible things happen, for example the autumn session of the National Assembly started somewhat tediously and dully; there is an impression that the MPs are tired too, in the meantime in the pre-election period they should be more active. In your opinion, why is the internal political situation so colorless?
– Naturally, any process, in particular political, has its backstage side. Any political decision is preceded by certain developments and whether we call them backstage or in any other way is a matter of definition. As to the colors of the internal political situation; maybe also the reason for such an impression is what was expected from the autumn session and political developments. The fact that the expectations were not met does not mean the situation is boring and tiresome. I just have to observe that however relaxed people are, it is hard to engage in the working process after a long holiday. One should not perceive the pre-election situation as a battlefield – it is a chain of normal political processes, during which the political forces and figures are more active. At the same time I must reaffirm that we are not at the climax of the pre-election period.
– According to some news the coalition forces may go for the election with a joint list, how do you treat this approach, won’t the votes of the separate parties be destroyed?
– Currently the Rule of Law Party is busy with active organizational and political work. The party participated in all general elections separately and it has necessary potential and abilities to participate separately again in the forthcoming election and succeed. I must add that currently no discussions are taking place between the coalition parties on participating in the election with a joint list. But if there are such discussions, we will certainly discuss, make a decision and the society will know about it. The participation in alliance with others should not be an end in itself. It must be in line with the long-term strategic goals and interests of our state and society. I must also state that the participation in alliance with others does not mean a loss of political principles or independence. The alliance presupposes comparison of projects, ideas and aims, mobilization of political tools and resources and most importantly joint will and work to implement those projects and aims. In this case the society cannot help but show an adequate attitude, because the alliance is formed and functions for the sake of its prosperity. So the votes of separate parties will not only be preserved, but will increase for the sake of that very alliance the given party is a member of. Going for the election in alliance with others has its pros and cons – much will depend on the political situation, on the priorities for future building and other factors. The important thing is, however, that the parties having traversed a path, having a biography have their stable electorate that vote for the given party, no matter what format the party chooses for participation in the election.
