“Despite architect Rafael Israyelyan’s house was not included in the official list of historical monuments, the Ministry of Culture reckon that city projects should take into account the historical significance of the architect’s house. According to the Yerevan City Hall, a hotel complex is being built at 9 Saryan Street, during which it is designed to partially restore the façade wall of R. Israyelyan’s house”, answered K. Ayvazyan, the head of the Yerevan department of the historical and cultural sites staff agency of the Armenian Ministry of Culture. Shortly afterwards the master’s house was leveled. “Not the owners, but the Armenian Ministry of Culture, the city building department of the Yerevan City Hall and architects are to blame. The Ministry of Culture had better do nothing”, said Anushik Avetyan, a culture expert and the organizer of the action, about the departments’ disregard during a conversation with us.
