The Prime Minister has become an ardent Republican

October 27,2011 00:00

Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia answered the questions of journalists in the National Assembly yesterday

– You distribute the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) membership cards in the regions – may one suggest that you will lead the list?
– Different suggestions and interpretations are made – I think that distributing the membership cards is quite an ordinary thing in terms of party building and when the members of the executive body distribute those cards, it means that they treat the membership process seriously and our party-building work gets a new impetus. We certainly aim at strengthening our positions.
– Do other members of the Republican Party deal with the regional issues?
– We adopt a new culture in the Republican Party – you know that an economic conference will take place on Sunday, this is also a novelty. You know that we cooperate with the Russian Federation “United Russia” Party, we cooperate with the European People’s Party (EPP) and exchange of experience takes place in the framework of that cooperation and we apply the positive things in the Republican Party.
– What happens within the coalition? How will you assess the rumors of dissolution?
– The principal issue is the following; today the Republican Party is the party that unites the coalition parties that are the backbone of the political stage and the Republican Party will not only retain that status, but also develop. The memorandum we signed with our coalition partners in February clearly defined that principle. We are united by the President of the Republic, we intend to increase our presence on the political stage and we don’t do that at the expense of our political partners, but will try to increase our reputation. It is obvious for everybody that it will be the case and RPA is the backbone that will form the new political format, the new political stage. The parties that will cooperate with us will gain and those who won’t, it’s their business. However, I want to warn those who spread news about the Republican Party they are completely wrong, underestimating our abilities. The Republican Party is the strongest political force in Armenia today and it will not only maintain its positions, but also strengthen them. This impetus we are obliged to give to our partners and to our public on behalf of our party. As the President of the Republic states, we build bridges to cooperate with everybody thanks to our certainty, our attitude and our adherence to principles. Who will cooperate with us, will gain, who won’t, will find himself at a loose end.
– Do you think that the socio-economic policy carried out by the Cabinet contributes to increasing the rating of the Republican Party?
– Our party and our Cabinet do the best they can to assure the natural socio-economic progress. I am convinced that we have taken all the necessary steps to prevent social upheavals in our country and we succeeded in that. We have collected necessary resources to overcome new challenges, new threats and new risks.
– Paruyr Hayrikyan said yesterday that it was very probable that he would join RPA, on the other hand, there is a news in the press that Khosrov Harutyunyan and Artashes Geghamyan will be elected MPs through the RPA proportional list. What can these three politicians give to the Republican Party?
– You mentioned three persons, I can name at least another ten famous politicians who are ready to cooperate with RPA and we are also ready to cooperate with them, because head of our team Serzh Sargsyan stated lots of times that the Republican Party was a uniting party and if there were people who were ready to cooperate with us in building the future of our country, we were also ready to cooperate with them in that matter. And that is why RPA, being the majority in the parliament, nevertheless, established a coalition, employed non-party ministers and figures. We will continue these principal activities and RPA will be the uniting force.
– Do you think that such marginal politicians can increase the RPA rating?
– You are not the person to assess who is on what side of the margin – the society is to make the assessment through the election and we take into account the society’s attitude toward this or that politician, while forming our list. As for those names you mentioned, they are politicians that are experienced, reputed and traveled a long road.
– Did you mean the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) by saying at a loose end?
– I think I have offered you a new opportunity to write tens of articles.
